Kissimmee River

Post by qgator »

Has anyone run the River now that all the oxbows have been finished? Me and a couple of buddies are thinking of running from 60 down to Istokpoga Canal.

Sounds like a cool trip - let us know if you go and how it was! :rebel:

You are looking at a long (20 mile) ride before you get to marsh. 60 S about 10 miles is Canal or slide dry pasture. Then it’s locks or piss off the lock tender jumping the dike. Then you have a good run of river hemmed in by the Air Force base on the West Bank, state park to the East. It’s all river running, kicker boat heaven.

The actual marsh is all South of Kissimmee River state park. Depending on fuel mileage you might be turning around before you get to the good stuff. For a first trip, I suggest reversing the plan and put in at Istokpoga.
I still think I-10 is the Mason Dixon line.

As of right now there is no marsh..its all dry and you better have a rank boat if you want to run it.

We are looking to go sometime in January, do you think water will still be low?
Would we be better putting at the S-65D Boat Ramp and heading North finishing at 60? Seems to add 18 miles but more oxbows/swamp.

The river is closed between Highway 98 (a couple miles North of 65D) to roughly the Istokpoga canal. The Corps are still working near Highway 98.

I don't see enough marsh worth running in the areas you're describing on Google Earth. Anyone ever rode this area? It's only about an hour from me but I'm always interested in new places to ride.

nothing like it used to be before they put up the stupid bouey markers and let it become an overgrown mess. Myrtles you used to be able to crash are now like oak trees

X2 on this, It's a terrible place to ride, stay away, it smells of death, the water level changes daily, it's over run with monster gators, wild boar, rank azz myrtle and willow stands and most of all, sticky green nettles. It's so rank that sometimes I have to make 2 trips to the truck to drop off game and refuel just to keep riding. Be a man, run land.:stirpot:
