Kinda a newbie
Ok getting a 12..5 ft cotton mouth was thinkin a 454 for tourque.but a 350 for the weight ..gonna be direct drive..3 seater driver on top..what's the way to go both motors are gonna be fuel injected I think

Get a caddy 500 for a direct drive much better then either motor you mentioned.

Certainly can't use a Ford engine on a direct drive!

Harmonics? If that were true then LS engines couldn't be used since the firing order is the same. Most don't want to bother with starter mounting since it doesn't bolt to the block like chevy.

You can absolutely run a Ford. There is guy around Cedar Key that has an older 15' Freadom Craft with a 400M that goes great. I had 15' River Master 17 years ago with a slightly warm direct drive 460 that would go anywhere a caddy boat would go. It had a RV cam, small chamber heads and a 500 holly on an aluminum intake. (straight out of the junkyard)

I use Ford for towin and Lycoming for goin
I still think I-10 is the Mason Dixon line.
