Re: duck shotgun
Cant go wrong there. I am a fan of the side by guns. I used to hunt with a Fox 12 Ga side by. Used it for all my shotgun chores except Quail. Loved that old gun. Had a reproduction Side By el cheapo something in .410 Cal I used to hunt Quail with.

Re: duck shotgun
Salt I generally run a cheaper pump and keep it hosed down.
Fresh I run a well worn 11-87.
In the AM our TX duck season opens, and its the first season without a friend, I will, in his honor, take his 101 Win out in the morning. I hope I do it right.

Re: duck shotgun
I shoot Remington's also. I know the new Beretta's and Benelli's are real nice guns. But I'm just partial to the remington. Still shooting a Rem. 1100 12Ga that I got when I was in the ninth grade. that was almost 40 years ago. I bought a Rem 3200 over/under about 5 years after that, still killing Ducks with that too. And about 3years ago I bought a Rem 1187. Its got different screw in chokes and shoots 2 3/4, 3, and 3 1/2 in shells. But I just leave the mod. choke in and shoot the same loads every season. If it works for you, why change.

Re: duck shotgun
i shoot a rem1187 and it sucks. Constantly jamming and i didnt even have it all last season because it was in the shop. I try to clean it after every weekend/hunt but it still jams. If i had the money i would be shooting a beretta but cant afford it right now.
It ain't no woman flesh and blood, it's that damned 'ol airboat.
Re: duck shotgun
I almost suspect its the fact that its the super mag 11-87, my regular one never missed a beat while the ones Richard and them used, benelli whatever all bit the dust at flag pond at one time or another.....
Maybe you need to run 500 rounds through the gun first?
I know that they like warm ammo, and need to be kept clean and wet though.

Re: duck shotgun
I cut my teeth shootin' an 870 Wingmaster & then when steel shot became madatory I went to an 870 Super Mag. After 30 some odd years shootin' a pump gun & I switched to a Benelli SBE II.
I never had a problem with any of the Remingtons or the Benelli, but the SBE II sure does shoot a lot faster & without all the recoil.

Mossberg 950 Magnum w/ Patternmaster choke 3"-3" 1/2" # 2's & 4's...
...or 20ga. 1100 LT. model ,or oveerunder Rem. Spartan made in Russia...2 3/4 and 3'' # 4s. when I'm feeling sporty!!
But I can always count on the Winchester 12oo pump. stock mod. barrell. 2's and 4's in 2 3/4". All guns are hunted in salt too.....Just keep them oiled and cleaned after every hunt!!!.....or painted w/Rustolum Flat Black.

Re: duck shotgun
Benelli M2 with the original patternmaster. I'm totally down with using a cheaper pump in the salt but I'm too crappy of a pumper and constantly jammed shells and got tired of the kick. The M2 does not shoot 3-1/2 loads, but If the hunting is slow heavi shot will go farther than I'm able to aim anyway. I love that gun. It's real light with very little kick. I'd sleep with it but my wife gets jealous. Additionally, I've had no problem with corrosion, but I am diligent about wiping it down, flushing the action with gun scrubber, then being fairly liberal with the rem oil. If you get a chance, shoulder an M2 sometime. I think anyone would really enjoy how light it is.

Re: duck shotgun
When hunting ducks, semi-auto all the way. Benelli M2's are awesome guns and if camo dipped will hold up to a harsh saltwater environment better than most. After hunting with both Benelli's and Berretta Extrema's, I prefer the Extrema hands down. Its a little heavier than the M2 and SBE but fits me better and has less recoil. Theres still a few 1st gen Extema's floating around under $900 which is $500-600 less than the SBE2.
