Any hunting I do would be with my bow. I have little desire to shoot one with my rifle I'd almost rather take a picture than shoot it with a gun (I said almost). It's not hard to kill something with a rifle, it about putting yourself in a position to pull the trigger that's hard.... The hunt. I enjoy using my bow so much more that I'd rather take a chance not shooting anything than resorting to rifle to get job done. Post not intended to start a debate. Do what makes you happy. For me it's using my bow. I've never been hunting out of state for deer or other trophy animals I've been happy with my local deer turkeys and hogs but now I'm kinda excited about the possibility of taking an open range (not fenced in a pasture) exotic animal for a change - 40 yards or less :)

Axis are free range in Texas now. Just about any deer lease in the Hill Country has Axis, Blackbuck, Whitetail, and hogs these days.

There are also plenty places to hunt free range Aoudad.

I'm a Taxidermist and have mounted a lot of these but I think I would hunt the axis deer because to me it is the most beautiful of all deer, I have harvested tons of whitetails and as beautiful as they are they just don't hold a candle to an axis.
