Had the same problem with ants recently, maybe this article on pestcontrolhacks will help you too. Most recipes described there actually work on most ant species, can't say about the tropical ones. The guys above have already told you about Deamon (tried it on cockroaches, worked great) and Terro (non-toxic), I would recommend you trying boric acid as SWAMPHUNTER45 did. Also, water and vinegar mixture or wild chamomile decoction can be used as ant repellents, just spray some places with the first one and wash your furniture with the second one. Hope, this helps anyone.
