No Bear Hunting in Florida this year!

Post by Mackokid » Wed Jun 22, 2016 10:24 pm

Freaking unbelievable..... Commissioners voted 4-3 to delay another bear hunting season until 2017. They caved to anti whimsical non-sense. Thought we had a team with a good head on their shoulders...... still cant believe it!!

That would work, except they are not elected officials. Nice hype though. :violent1:

I'm well aware that FWC commissioners are appointed but who appoints them.....ummmmm THE ELECTED OFFICIALs

The Governor picks them....NO POLITICS

Now the connection..... THEY ARE CONFIRMED by the Senate..... No Senator wants this on their campaigns back in an election cycle

In fact more than one of them host huge political events, been there and seen it!

First the Redfish now this!

If it was not political what we would have seen is FWC having at least one or two quota type hunts in specific units such as Wakulla where the analytical data supported the culling of the population. To enact a stop to all the harvesting is just further evidence of pandering in an election year to the anti-hunters.

I voted and I knew we were F *%Ked. With 20 million people and under 400,000 hunting licenses sold in Florida. We will never win a VOTE.

Hell why doesn't the FWC put up hunting in general to a vote? That way Hunting can be voted out by the old Yankee ladies also.

I thought the FWC was heading toward sound management with our states game animals.

I guess Florida will have to follow suit like other states that have Animal Rights infiltrated Game Commissions ... THE THREE S's

You can thank one of your own..Ron Bergeron. He voted against it last year and did again this year with proven scientific facts right in his face. He doesn't care about anyone but himself. He needs to go.

The reason for not buying a tag was it was a fubar system. If i buy a tag i need a place to hunt and time to do it. If they would of issued limited tags and stretched it out over the season it would not of gotten so much hype.

First of all, most sportsmen groups in South Florida have been asking for members to send comments pertaining to the bear hunt to FWC for the past few months. One good reason to belong to a club. If your reading this post you most likely have a computer and know how to use it. All the upcoming meetings along with the agendas are posted in plenty of time to read them and make comments. They will even send you e-mails and texts about subjects that you are interested in.
Secondly, I urge all of you to go to the Florida Channel and watch a replay of the meeting. No need to watch all the public comments, just go to the commissioner exchange before the vote. You will see that not all were in agreement and two were saying that hunting was an option with more info. The commissioner that torpedoed the hunt for this year questioned the validity of the science that was presented. He chose to ask for nearly impossible science to justify a hunt for next year. I t remains to be seen if this is possible since FWC bear management staff is one of the most knowledgeable and respected in the country. Also disputed as work that was done by other experts that were brought in to look at FWC's science. All of the presentations and the supporting letter are on the FWC site under the agenda. I only hope that Dr Eason and his staff don't decide to move on to another state's wildlife agency that appreciates their work. This only the second time in many years that the commissioners didn't okay staff recommendations.
The next item that we all need to watch is the campaign of Chuck O'neal. He is running for the Democratic seat in the Apoka area and is the founder of Speak Up Wachhvia, pardon the spelling if incorrect. If he gets in he wants to have the commissioners elected, not a good thing, and any future hunt planned for a previously endangered species to be put on a statewide referendum. Those of you that live in the district he is running for, need to get off your butts and make sure he doesn't get elected. I read on this forum many of you that want to do something, well here's your chance.
Without going into a long explanation, we don't want our commissioners elected. The state constitution lets the agency be independent of court challenges and legislative interference.
And finally, I hope this thread doesn't disappear tomorrow and not be acted upon. I'm only one person and can't do it on my own.
And by the way, I was at the meeting.

Just as I thought, this thread got bumped to the second page already. Everyone complains but when it comes to action it suddenly goes silent. This should have every hunter and sportsmen in the state that reads this forum worried about the future of hunting in Florida.

Yep 460 your right

I belong to a club and our family attends government hunter workshops. It is about impossible to get any of my buddies to come along but when the rules get changed they sure bitch! In the 2014 season my wife and I stopped a lock out at LSNWR where they were going to prohibit hunting stands from being put in prior to opening day where for 20 years we had 2 weeks prior . They were looking to adopt WMA rules for the NWR saying it was state law. Well we fixed that to the point we have 7 days prior but they are chipping away at us piece by piece!

Some states have Hunters Rights in their state constitution, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Oklahoma, Vermont, Virginia and Wisconsin......NOT FLORIDA

Honestly I don't think we as hunters could get the 61% vote needed to secure our rights rather than the current "privilege"!

Hunters are the new minority

I sure hope that those who live up in the Apoka area realize that if the anti-hunter gets elected, he will try his best to get all types of hunting banned. Don't believe for a minute that if the antis can get an amendment that bans hunting most game in Florida put on the ballot they will. As I said, let's see hoe long this thread stays current.

Only bumping it one more time. At least more than a few have viewed this thread. Hopefully when the time comes to ask for participation people step up.

Here's a post I posted on florida sportsman - the link to the Florida Channel archive is (once there search for the last part -part 4 I believe of the FWC meeting - http://thefloridachannel.org/videos/622 ... -4-700-pm/ - my post below gives time stamps in the part 4 video where the betrayal goes down.

Fl Sptsmn 6-23-2016 / 12:45 Post :

"The vote was a narrow 4-3 split. After reviewing the video and very convoluted commissioner discussion prior to voting it looks like Jablonski, Rivard, Bergeron and Spotswood voted to postpone.

Review of this vid http://thefloridachannel.org/videos/...part-4-700-pm/ beginning at 23-08 commissioner Roberts made a motion that FWC pass option 2 (staff recommended option).

Option 2 Vote takes place at 1 hr - 07 min - 45 sec - fails 4 to 3 then Jablonski asks for another motion - Bergeron volunteers to put option 3 (delay any further bear hunt for a year) motion on table at 1-08-30 - Rivard seconds motion at 1-09-02 - Option 3 motion is passed at 1-14-06 followed by anti's applauding at 1-14-24."

Suggest watching until after the vote to watch Oneal in the suit and his associates clapping - to me they don't look all that thrilled - maybe because they know they'll be back next year stronger than this year to request more necessary science or whatever to stop a hunt.

It will be interesting to see if commissioners will back up FWC's science next year.
