Yes Boys, my boat really has finally hit the water! I know most of you probably thought I gave up on it, but I really hadn't! I've been steadily plugging along in it... Truthfully until Cherpa did the math, I actually thought I was coming up on ten years working on this project, so I'm thrilled to find out I'm only coming up on year number 9, so I'm ahead of schedule!!!
Now it's not finished yet, (like they ever really are!) but it is running and it has been water tested and it does in fact actually float and I didn't sink it at the boat ramp or on its first outing, so whoever placed their money on that particular bet lost and it's now time to pay up! (And I expect to get my cut for helping you win too, cuz I know the odds were high on sinking it and I'm gonna need money for AV gas now!)
It took me a long time to come up with a name for it that fit this boat build project, and after 7 or so very long years of thinking I finally came up with the perfect name... It's being named "One Piece At A Time"... Yes, after the Johnny Cash song...
I don't have my artwork done yet for it, but here's a pic of it right before it hit the water at the boat ramp... (I figured I better take one just in case things didn't go according to plan!)Image
And another one of me actually in the driver's seat... (I'm not a great selfie taker, so bare with me)Image

Now as far as how it ran on its maiden voyage, it went really well all things considering! It's got to have some tweaking in a couple of areas, one of which was the pitch of the prop... I went down and saw Darrin and Terry today at Sensenich and they changed it up for me for the next trial run... I also have a porpoising issue to deal with, not a surprise at all since this has an entirely different set up than was in the hull when I bought it and the fact I've been flying by the seat of my pants on this whole build so far... If it were perfect on the first time out I would have thought I did something wrong... lol
So now it's time to get everything dialed in and check everything over to make sure all nuts and bolts are tight now that it's been ran a little bit...
But here is your warning boys, the swamp is no long a safe place to be! I'm learning how to drive my boat, and it would probably be wise to stay off the water for a bit until I get it all figured out, or make sure your insurance is all paid up...

A BIG Congratulations . . .
You are to be commended for 'keeping the faith'. 8)
Actually "persevering" comes to mind.

Heck, on that note, I don't know that I wouldn't maybe call it
"One Persevering Piece at a Time"
That is admittedly a little long, but dang sure would be descriptive.

In any case, the results speak for themselves !! :thumbleft:

Lolol Yeah I like that, perseverance... that sounds so much better than stubbornness... But truth be told, I couldn't bring myself to give up on it, because I knew you guys would never let me hear the end of it... and I just couldn't live with that on my conscience!!
I really have to thank you guys on SA for keeping after me on it, because there were several times along the way that it did get discouraging and I had to step back for a little bit and walk away until I could think clearly again and fix whatever the newest dilemma was that popped up... and there sure were a bunch of those! For a while it felt like every step I took forward I took a dozen steps back... But so far I've gotten through them all... One Piece At A Time!

PC or Tonya? That's not the rigging I helped you drag back from lake whales?
If you you need a hand tweaking it at bayport, I'll try but I've never tried tweaking a boat with seats that high on a 12 laser hull. Dam your center of gravity is beyond belief but should make a good night gig rig!
If that's the same hull, wow you did wonders with it? No wonder it took years to polish a nickel black laser!
Wish you luck with it, but it's rigged for highly experienced giggers and not a fun boat at all for rec use!

Nope, that's not the same rigging, same drybox that came off that rigging though and the same hull! Ran into some snags with the rigging that I got in Frostproof, it wouldn't fit in my hull after I had my stringers replaced, so I ended up having to have all new built... I had it set up more like a glades style boat, because I like to see where I'm going, but most of why it looks so tall is because I'm short so all the pics I take of it are looking up at it... Lol But it's really stable believe it or not, a lot more so than I thought it would be when I picked it up and brought it home from Alumitech. When I was out on my water test to see if it would actually float, my neighbor was with me and he was walking around inside the hull while I was in the driver's seat and I thought for sure it was gonna feel like I was gonna tip over when he moved from one side to the other, and it didn't at all... not sure if it's because the seat stand is kind of built like a pyramid and all the legs lean toward the center or not... However, now that I think about it, it may be because of the weight I had in the bottom of the hull too... I have a large fuel tank for an aircraft boat and because I was trying to find out how much fuel it actually held, I had it filled to capacity which was 36 gallons, so maybe between that and the battery and the stainless rigging, it kept that pendulum/bouy bobbing thing from happening... ya got me... I just turned the wrenches... Lol But it isn't a light weight boat by any means, it's definitely a tank... After I run it a bit and see how things go, one of us may have to go on a diet... lol

That's a very nice, clean looking boat, Mam; congrats!

Those seats do look a might high, sitting up there around the top of the cage.

Perhaps I'll see you out on the coast sometime.

Most definitely a lot of work! I've really had a lot of fun building it though even if it has taken almost 9 years to get it to this stage... I've learned SOOOOOO much building it myself from basically the ground up, stuff that I never realized I would learn when I started this project. It's made me think of all the different ways I could do things on it and then having to think farther out as to how those decisions were going to effect the rest of the boat build before it would be complete and then choosing the way I thought would suit me best in the end. Did I do things the way most guys would have done it? Probably not... Lol I'm a chick after all and we all know the male and female way of thinking rarely go along the same path... But I put a lot of thought into everything I did on it and as of right now, there really isn't that much I would change if I had to do it all over again...
I can't possibly thank those people enough who've helped me, guided me, explained things in further detail when I asked and answered all my dumb questions without treating me like I was stupid all along the way. I knew this was going to be a large undertaking from the start, and I know there were a lot of people who placed their bets against me completing it and that's ok... I didn't do it to prove anything to anybody but myself... For once I did it for me... :D

Thank you Tim for taking the time to do this for me! I still haven't figured out how to save it to my phone, but at least I have it in my email now...
Billy actually took two more videos that are still on the GoPro, and this one is actually the last one he did... neither of us is super tech savvy when it comes to this sort of thing, so I'm just thrilled we have anything of it, cuz neither one of us thought to take any pics after it was actually on the water besides that one selfie I got as I was waiting to load it back on the trailer... Blonde Moment I guess... lol

Thanks again!

Painterchic, here is what you need. it's pretty basic, but as you can tell it makes a good Video. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Vivitar/49701697

This is Video of my maiden Hovercraft test run made the day after you tested yours :) for under $70.00 it can't be beat. it even has zoom on it. comes with several mounts and a remote control. I have not tested the remote yet. with a big memory card, it will record for a pretty good while.

Looking forward to seeing more Video of you on the water soon.

if ya see a big yellow Hovercraft sometime, say hi to us.

Oh I know that! I've had just as much fun giving it right back! Tell Austin I'm not in the clear quite yet, but I'm getting better! Tell him when I get good, I'll bring it down and make him go riding with me to prove it... lol

Oh Geez... I run over a couple of trees and do a couple of unintended donuts and now I've got a scarlet letter for my driving skills... Tell him he needs to cut me a little slack and give me a second chance, that was my first time trying to drive a boat!!! He needs to toughen up!!!

I for one am glad those seats are up there. This is one way we can keep track of where she is (so we can run the other way and hide). BTW. PC, you don't have any brakes, and trees are not like hitting deer.
