This is probably why I dont do side work much. I'm a computer guy and I always worry about this.

I think the key is communication. Maybe he had an idea of what it would cost and failed to discuss that with you. Either way, it's as much his responsibility to communicate his concerns before there's a problem. I have never touched a mag but to me it sounds like you spent some time on them and obviously you know more than I do. I'd rather pay an expert and know it's right in this case. I can't walk on water.

If I do side work from now on I have decided that I will over communicate every aspect of the job. I am tired of people thinking I am overcharging for "simple computer work" If they are in a hurry or are unreasonable, maybe they should go elsewhere.

My feeling is, if it was so simple, you'd have done it yourself. You called me and I value my free time.

I paid 250 for 1 rebuilt mag and I had to install it. Not over charged. Just a price quote might have saved some hard feelings. JMO

seems like a deal to me...i get this all the time also, working on cars.what i like to do is go to there work place and see what they will give you for free or what work you can get them to do for half what they want..makes me mad..people that dont want to pay,i would be getting my work back or parts involved.sucks the waisted time but i still feel better that they dident get what they wanted......its why we all have jobs, you do what ya can and pay someone else to do what you cant... id be happy that boat is running, pay the man and buy him a case of beer...people these days

i'm with retriever1,wished you lived closer to me,i'd pay that and hefty tip for that job.i used to work on trucks afterhours at the trucking company where i work.a lot of folks think because you are doing it as a side business you shouldn't charge much for the work.i only charge about half what a shop does because i'm working out of my pickup and some still gripe.i've learned to give a close ballpark figure for the work before i start so the customer has an idea of the cost.had a couple tell me that they can get it done down the street for less.told em by all means go down the street.one thing i learned a long time ago is that you will never please everybody all the time.

Don't sound out of line to me... I do them for 150.00 each plus parts. I glass bead, alodine the cases and put in only what parts are needed. and paint them once assembled and tested. Install and time them too. I'll even hand prop your boat before you take it to prove it's timed right!!!

I do Air conditioning & Refrigeration If u do somebody a favor and give them to much of a break on price they will be the first ones to bi**h about everything. If it's an average everyday price you will probably never hear from them, I give people breaks all the time because i know its a tough economy. But to answer your question, that price is cheap you can do my mags anytime i paid 175 for 1 mag and had to put it on myself. Always post your price up front though to bypass any dissputes.

I agree with what others have said. Sounds like a very fair price to me. If I were you I'd post where I lived. Probably pick up some more work.

People these days I swear ! It was an ignorant move on the guys part to have not discussed a price that you could both settle on before starting the work ! If he had an issue on how much he was wanting to spend he should've spoke up before hand and not just assume that you were going to do it for close to free. I feel that is a really good price for the amount of time and work you put into it. Some people just don't appreciate some things ! If it was me you would've had a hefty tip and a case of beer on top of it...

250.00 for one mag may be a little rich but for two you are the one loosing money. There are some people out there that will not be happy even if you paid them, THEY ARE CALLED DEMOCRATS AND YOU SEE WHAT THEY GOT US FOR 4 YEARS. hE!! you could have gold plated them and he would have been an A$$hole. I hope you claimed a couple of teeth from him, put em on a plaque that say complements of the complaint dept.

All I need is an address for that price, I pay for the shipping both ways if your not close. For what you did he should have paid the 250 and gave you a case of beer.

Going by experience I would guess the guy is wealthy too. They tend to try and screw you the most. Anytime you do somebody a favor you will get screwed and if you have good customers service you will go broke. It's a different world I see everybody I know say they want thinks done right and five minutes later see them always buy whats cheapest. When people call me for bids I just say I'm not your guy I'm never the cheapest that policy has saved me thousands and a ton of time dealing with pricks too. I wish people would pay more for more instead of always wanting to pay less for less.

There are people on this site that have proven their measure by their Word and Work. Many here have had boats, engines, drives and service work done by them. They offer their Best, stand behind their work and have customer service second to none. They are selfless in helping a fellow airboater get their rig running.
I thank you for what you do.
Well done GMAC.
