runnin 93 in the 0540

Post by sprayn&prayn » Wed Jun 06, 2012 11:32 am

Hi,
I recently bought a boat with an 0540 and it is my first lycoming, but the guy I bought it from said he had the motor set up with lower compression in it so he could run pump gas threw it apparantly. He told me not to run av gas in it but I was told that after every 5 tanks or so to fill it up from dead empty with av gas and run it. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

(Popcorn Smily here)

Running the lower compression will give it some longevity, but the inevitable cracked exhaust port problems will still show up eventually, might as well not bother with running a tank of 100ll as the lead is not in there for the valve seats as they are hardened anyway. When you come off of a long or hard run dont shut it right down let it run at idle for a bit to cool off.
A cooling shroud may help it stay cooler as well.
I never finish anyth,,,.

Use lead additive or at least mix it with av gas. The lead will help the valves.
