Post by Corey »

first off new here and would like to say hi

but picked this boat up the other day and the guy told me that it was 100hp

found out I have a pe-60 case but cant quite figure out what cylinders I have on it also I was wondering if a o-200 oil sump will fit on this motor

Also would like to know if anyone has another mag that they would like to sell thanks guys Corey

not an expert but with the carb on the botom it is not a pe anything probly aircraft . does it hane two plugs per cylinder? I see it has only one mag. But it looks like a 0- 200.

Pretty sure it is a pe-60 by looking at the accessory case and a spot on the top of the engine case but ran the # on the carb and it is from a lycoming o-235

I thought it was a o-200 first time I looked at it not giving much though of it but now i got to get the carb right on it

Thanks for the reply

it is not a gpu if it was a gpu it would have carb on top and the oil cooler is attached the back of the block It lookes like a 85 hp or a 100 hp just dont have both mags for a reason or another but still a good reliable motor not a powerhouse but reliable

By the boss on the top of the case where the intake would bolt up, the oil filler cap on the front cover and where the starter is mounted it sure looks like a PE-60 to me with C-90 jugs and intake, if this has the flange for the belhousing to bolt to "ie" where the rear mount, starter, alternator is.

That's what I was kinda thinking myself I have seen what all the "a" "c" and o-200 motors look like and what the cases look like and this looks like none of them I just wasn't sure if c90 cylinders would bolt to the 60's case with no mods

The PE-60 is a 90 hp engine with 2 mags, PE-60 is a model number so to speak. PE-90 is the (150) and PE-150 is the (220)

I think china or russia is makin some knockoffs of the a/c engine parts for the experimental and kit plane market ... the ones that don't need FAA cerification so it won't be long before they show up on airboats ...

It has aircraft cylinders on it so it has 2 plugs per cyl, you simply need another mag with a drive gear to get the 2nd mag installed, with plug wires of course, no driiling neccessary.

How is the oil cooler Plumbed?
If you don't have time to do it right the first time ,
Where are you going to get the time to do it a second time?

The oil should be passing through the cooler as the oil galley runs
through the split of the camshaft in the rear of the case to feed one side to the other, you might need a reducer as a thermostat to slow the oil down and let it cool.

when I shut the boat off the cooler was very cold as if no fluid has run through it and the oil pressure was very low few pounds at idle and maybe 10 or so at 1700rpm

this thing usually runs 20 at idle and 40 at w.o.t.

should I change the oil and clean the oil screen and see if that will help out I seem to recall that when the oil screen in these engines gets dirty that relief valve either shuts or opens bypassing everything and just runs oil through the engine I may be wrong though

Sure, throw some new oil at it and check/ clean the screen as well it cant hurt, if it does not change the oil pressure issue, pull the pressure relief valve and make sure it isnt hung up for some strange reason, the screen has no bypass and the relief valve is directly over the stbd engine mount in the first picture you posted.

Wait<<<<>>>>> a minute>>>,,,,,,There is a ball and spring in the rear of the case on one side or the other underneath the rear mount with a brass hex plug, that is your oil cooler bypass, it could be hung up or missing the ball, check into that mostly.
By the way welcome to SA!
