How about a 220 gpu, I know it would be difficult with all the intake / carb configurations

just my opinion but those heat extractors remind me of putting tin foil around a boston butt?? anyone have any real data of the before and after temps on thier motors?? Just wondering?? Just looks like to me it would keep the heat held around the motor. I understand it on an airplane but the motor is in front and the air is forced through it. not so much on an airboat. Just wondering???

Lets see who else will pull their head out of the sand!
The problem I see with the designs shown,
there is too much area above the cylinders,
it should fit tighter, about an inch above the head fins.
Plus it should not be open on the end opposite the prop.
It should wrap around and turn down around the front cylinders.
It should extend aft very close to the prop, with a flare .
The idea is to pull air up from the bottom,
then over the top and out towards the prop.
There is an incredible suction available for cooling.
Gyro: My shroud comes 1/2-3/4 of the way down the front of the cylinders opposite the prop and is right up against them to draw air upward through the fins. And above it is as low as it could be with the fuel injection spider on top of the case. Also the gaps between the cylinders are closed in to draw more air through the fins. You will be able to see this when i take more pictures.

Yes, there is plenty of real life data. Use the search function and you will find a bunch.

Look at it this way, In order the cooling fins to do their job, they need to have airflow going between them.

By nature of an airboat application, the movement of air is going across the top of the valve covers and out the prop, the radical bulk of it is not moving between the fins on the jugs.

It is very much like turning your radiator so that the air was hitting the end of it instead of going throught it.
You can easily see that woud not work very well. Running an a/c engine without a shroud is a similar senario, just not as extreme.

With the shroud properly designed, like Gyro eluded to and Parker has shown, the movement of air is redirected (or pulled) up between the jugs and through the fins and THEN through the prop. The difference in volume of cool air over the jugs makes the temperature difference readily measurable.

I know you are fairly new to this gyro but you sir have the right idea. That is the problem with so many people that run airboats and a few manufacturers IMO. They wont try anything new and if it isn't what has always been done then it wont work. I find it rather comical personally. Hope to meet you at the FAA ride.

Lil Maddog, I like the looks of your shroud on your motor, thats about what I was visualizing in my head to try to try to build... Nice being able to see it! I appreciate the post!

What is the best way to connect the cooling shroud to the motor so it doesn't come off without wanting to take it off???

Cuz if the shroud gets loose or comes off I foresee shrapnel flying everywhere like a grenade went off..

Gee, is that your rear running light right near your mag? FWC would get a real kick out of that, not raggin' ya by any means, but I can see em' swormin' upon you down here.....

I personally have a 4" band of flexible leds wrapped around my vertical support on my cage, and they frown upon that, but it's legal, it's just that if they see something they haven't seen before, they think auotmatic ticket$$$$$$, lmao

Made a template out of door skin. then laid it flat on the sheet metal and traced it then bent it. Work great.
