why does it have to be upstack 200? with your boat id get a 200 0-360. youll go anywhere the 540 boats will and burn less gas

No replacement for displacement. The 540 will hold its value better than a 4 banger. And set up right they arent bad on fuel.I can run from loughmans to lone cabbage and back on 15 gallons.

I'm with Tony 100% on that. I would defiantly go with the 540... And JB's are free as hell anyway it shouldn't be bad at all on fuel. JMO!

200 will hold its value just about as well as the 540 but initial cost between the 2 is about the same so u know where im at on this one 540 all the way fuel burn wont be much different because that 540 wont have to work very hard to push ur little rig

I'd say down stack exhaust, side stack cylinders and up stack carb O-360 to make sure you got all the angles covered lol. 360 will use less gas, less oil, less spark plugs, less wires, weigh less weight be less parts to rebuild and or maintain in the long run....... Never owned a 540 but my IO-520 is a gas hog and my buddies 180hp O-360 is the least fussy easiest to maintain long term engine I've personally seen.

I've been airboating for 44 years now and have had Carmotor DD, Carmotor Belt drives, Carmotor Geardrives, and Aircraft. I currently own a IO-520D, IO-360 upstack, O-200A, IO-540K. The IO-360 is the only motor that has impressed me! JMO

:old_glory: Don't waste your time had both. You will be super happy when you feel those two extra cylinders firing. Way more push you only live once Best airboat engine out there Lycoming 0540 Stick with a downstack lot less headaches with the exhaust system.

Take it from somebody who came from a 200 +HP 4 banger. I didn't think the 540 would be big difference but definitely was. I don't know if I could do a 4 banger again.
