Desired oil temp on an 0540 S/V

Post by JPerkins323 » Thu Jun 13, 2013 12:47 pm

Some people tell me my engine is running to cool. I have a s/v 0540 w/ 9:1 pistons an a .090 12x6.8. Even running high saw grass and bogging the motor down as much as I can I dont run any more then 180. I cruise about 165. I have a pretty stout Fluidyne oil cooler and I've only put about 6 hours on it since I got it from jurnigan so I don't think its completely broke in yet. What does every one els run?

I'm no mechanic, but I'd have to say X3.

It ain't a straight valve 540, but my injected 470 has been running cooler than that for almost 6 years on pump gas and is still running strong.

Can't ask for any better than that! When oil temps start climbing it is caused by worn rings and ring lands letting combustion gasses torch the oil.
I never finish anyth,,,.
