Supercharged 0480 2800 goes flat

Post by Kennyjoe » Sun Aug 04, 2013 6:47 pm

Zero hours on new top end, new carb for supercharged motor...79 and 89 on jets..aeromotive 1000 fuel pump..has boost reference on aeromotive regulator and 2 carb..has 8 lbs pressure at idle and 12 lbs at 2000 rpm..14 lbs at 2600..aeromotive filter is clean..pulled fuel lines and flow is great..runs up to 2800 pulling good and just seems like it runs out of fuel..besides seeing how big a fireball 45 gallons of av gas makes and starting over..what else should I look at..

I had 85 in primarys
98 in sec
AND....very impt........high flow needle and seats.....130cc.....AED makes them...
When it goes in boost, over 2300,,,,,,,it really pulls the fuel

I put the 9 to 1, flat top pistons as well,,improved the low end alot

check the plugs

do a leak-down
It should turn 3400

Fuel pressure is not the only variable. You need flow too. #8 or 1/2" line minimum. No reducers or adapter that are smaller than that either.
No 90* fittings is preferred, however if one is needed it must be the high flow tube style. No hardware store stuff. They don't flow the same.

No good.

Like skinny said no 90s and minimum 1/2 inch fuel lines. First question is what carb is it? If it is a AED or Quick Fuel Blower carb then youre probably fine there. Jets are sufficient size. You dont need the boost reference to the regulator because the aeromotive will maintain all the volume and pressure needed. Unhook it for now to rule out that being the problem. Turn the pressure down to 6.5-7lbs. 8lbs at idle is a bit much and might be making it rich there. I only run 6-7lbs constant pressure and no problems. Make sure you have a single feed to each bowl seperately. Check power valve and make sure its good and should be a 2.5 or 4hg. Any questions feel free to PM me

I think your fuel pressure is a bit much I'm not saying that's the problem but I would turn it down to like (TIGO 541) said to 6 1/2 - 7 psi . That's where I always keep mine at and it runs great.

I pulled the line off of the regulator adjusted it to 7.5 psi and presto..3100 on the trailer..now just need to seat the rings and Iam sure she is going to be a beast. A thirsty beast..thanx for all the suggestions...Big thanx to outlaw aircraft engines...this motor is quiet at idle..he bumped up the compression and put adjustable push rods ..zero valve train noise..and also to jd in Melbourne he pulled a new carb off a motor waiting to get picked for me..he called and made sure his other customer was ok with it..and fl shooter my cousin for picking her up..gonna go start seating the rings..

I'm glad you got it going :thumbleft: those adjustable push rods are nice... (Tigo541) has them in his GSO an that thing sounds like a sowing machine compared to mine. Good luck with everything :salute:

So you're saying these gso480 motors need at least 1/2 inch fuel lines ? Cuz I've recently inquired one but its set up with it appeared # 6 steel breaded fuel lines.

Most definately at least 1/2 inch lines. Its not pressure these motors need as much as volume when the boost comes in. I have a 3/4 line (overkill, all thats needed is 5/8) from tank to pump, 5/8 from pump to Reg. and two 1/2 inch lines from Reg to carb.

Thats awesome man im glad i could help! Enjoy that beast! If its on a light free boat you will be surprised it wont burn any more than a DD 540 at cruise but if you run it hard it will burn 10gal per hr. Im running the adjustable pushrods from Gary also and have 85hrs on them so far. Everybody that hears my boat running says its a very quiet motor. I set my valves at 60 thousanths

So you run individual lines to each side of the carb bowls? Mine runs into a tee rail where my fuel pressure gauge is also located. I had to install an in line reg. due to the fact my fuel pump was pumping like 13 lbs n was making my needles bleed by even after adjusting my bowls. Set the reg at 6.5 n she's good now. Guess ill have to go get some new steel braided fuel lines and re plumb the fuel to the carb.
