Lycoming o320 help PLEASE!

Postby Justin-Utahstyle22 » Thu Jan 08, 2015 10:25 pm

new to all this but I figure this is the best place to ask! I have a lycoming o320 on my 18' utah style boat. And recently been having a few problems. I usually run it around 2700rpms. But recently I can't get the rpms past around 23-2400rpms. I replaced plugs and wires to see if that helped but it didn't! What else could it be!? Trying to get out for the last couple weeks of the duck hunt! Thanks!

Check fuel pump, replace fuel filter. How is the mag drop. How many RPMs do you drop at 1500 rpm when you ground out(turn off one mag)? I had a cracked distributor block(mag) and could only hit 2400 rpm. Would drop 500 rpm instead of 75 rpm. Also make sure intake tube are tight and not leaking. Good luck.

take it up to 1800 rpm and swap from mag to mag and see if theres a large drop in rpms.

check a leakdown to see if you have a bad cylinder/dropped seat

I did a compression test and came up with a couple different readings cylinder-1-100psi #2-80psi #3-90psi 4-80psi. Is that normal and I checked my mag drop and there wasn't any?
