Aftermarket supercharger on Lycoming O-540?

Postby twister69z » Mon Jul 20, 2015 10:15 am

I am sure this has been done or attempted, has anyone had success putting a aftermarket or automotive supercharger on a O-540? Not interested in the 400 foot race, looking to build some power for moving. Bigger hull with a large family. Tell me your succes story , with type and brand pictures if possible. If you done it and had terrible results also, hoping to learn from others mistakes and successes! I am starting with a IO-540-K1g5D , removing the sump to install a O-540 sump for installing a MA4-5 .

Mike there was a guy that run a procharger off the crank of a straight valve 540 that run around st cloud area. His boat ran real well. Also know of a boat that has a 220gpu with a 671 roots blowers on it. But its spends most of its time torn apart.

This is what I figured , anyone needing a K1g5D sump and intake pipes , looking for O-540 sump and tubes for some trading.

I looked at these awhile back, complete kit. Kind of expensive but I'm sure could be replicated, they give performance numbers as well

Dane Oliver aka suprchargz on here has a belt driven vortech blower for a 540. They ran one on chip's straight valve years ago. The guy in st.cloud has one with 520
