I've got a fuel injected 520. What's the recommended engine oil? Been using the aeroshell 100 but it's sometimes hard to find.
Also, sometimes the hot starts are impossible. Usually have luck turning over a few times with mags and fuel off and throttle open but sometimes I just have to sit for about 20 minutes to let cool off.
Thanks for the help.

Re: 520 oil
the aero shell is cheapest an east to find. The advanced auto , napa both normally carry it or get if you ask, however any other brand aircraft oil will be fine I don't normally like to mix different brands but lots of people do it.
start running Av gas to clean out all that carbon and at least while temperature are so warm . Av gas will run cooler

Phillips 66 is about half the price of shell
And it's good my 520 is hard to start when it's hot too l have 10to1 pistons though
Make sure you have good terminals on your battery that was a problem for me at first

I hot start the IO-520 by cranking with the throttle cracked for 800-1000 rpm and the mixture full rich before giving it fuel. When it fires I turn on the electric fuel pump to keep it running. May not work on a boat but the aircraft starts hot every time within two or three compression strokes. If you are slow on the pump switch the second attempt isn't as easy.
I have a friend with an IO-360 who hot starts his with the mixture off. He pushes the mixture knob in when it fires. His fuel is gravity fed so it is basically the same procedure I use.

Rural King has the oil in my area. I believe it was 5.99 a quart. They have cases of it stacked on pallets.
