220 carb holley 500

Postby jeepinocala1111 » Sun Feb 21, 2016 3:13 pm

Anyone ever try a holley 500 made for circle track racing? My 2 barrel holley 500 works good but since my rebuild of everything else I am wanting a new carb its pretty much the only thing I have not replaced and I have to wonder if ill get a bit more from a race ready carb?

I had a Holley 500 on my GPU and it ran well. The only thing you need to do is install some 74 size jets, a 10.5 power valve and get a cyl temp kit and gauge to keep an eye on things. I wouldn't get anything "race ready". By new and do the simple jet & power valve mods.

Did your motor have dome top high compression pistons?

Holley is recommending a 350 cfm 2 barrel

It'll breathe better with the 500. The GPU is a relatively large displacement engine.
6 cylinders with a 5" bore displacing 470 cu.in. will produce a strong signal through those 2 throttle bores.

I am leaning towards this carb.

would this carb be too much for a healthy stock single mag 220?

Not a big fan of the Holley 4160 series carbs. The GPU just runs better without the 4 bbl transition. Two barrels at 500 cfm's is consistent and smooth from idle to max RPM, and it is a 4150 style carb. 500 CFM's is over-carbed by about 150CFM's already.

My 220 conversion has a modified 500, I put annular discharge boosters in it from an 80s Mustang 5.0ho carb with 75 jets and a power valve block off plug. A stock PE150 will run fine with an out of the box unit but tuning is recommended as Glades Cat suggests.
I never finish anyth,,,.
