Alternator

Postby digginfool » Fri Mar 18, 2016 10:50 am

Can anybody tell me make and model of the small alternator that's used? Schmidt is sold out and I need one. I've heard it's off a Kubota tractor but there's got to be more info than that. The Kubota dealer said without part number, they can't help; they use about 50 different alternators.

Just went through the mystery alternator process myself. Previous owner powder coated over all numbers. Went to advance auto parts. If you find a guy whose worked at an auto parts store for a while they can usually find a match. They see alot and the computer shows a pic. Good luck.

So, ended up not being the alternator. We were having fueling problems and the engine builder installed a mechanical fuel pump and disconnected the electric pump fuel lines but not the electric lines. Little did either of us realize the self-exciter line came off the fuel pump switch. Not wanting to run the pump dry (or listen to it) I never turned the fuel pump on. Eventually, battery died and left me stranded. Since the SE wire was dead, when I used the voltmeter to test, alternator wasn't putting out. After a bench test proved the alternator wasn't the problem, it took me just a couple minutes to figure what happened. Cut the wire to the fuel pump until I need it and now when I turn on the fuel pump switch, I have an alternator that works. Doh!
