What would make both mags go out at the same time

You can melt both mags at the same time by having them grounded, switched "off" and a full 12 volts is supplied to something and the main ground is bad off the block. The full voltage will run through the mags.

I know that sounds like a perfect storm of stuff to happen, but I did it. Ground was bad. Tried starting on one mag and therefore fried the other. Then tried starting on the other mag and fried the one.

Don't understand how voltage would get to the mags , the switches only connection is too a ground. Really crazy, going to check it out today .

Ever wonder why there is only one wire on a starter? The starter itself grounds to the block. Then the block is grounded to complete the circuit. If the ground goes bad, the voltage seeks an alternate path, the mags when they r grounded!

Perhaps something grounded to the same ground the mags use was supplying voltage to the ground. If you had an off switch on that ground but not on the main ground out the block it would do the same thing in reverse.

It's all just guessing without actually following wires.

Glad you made it back. Good luck figuring it out.

Understand about the ground, but with the switches on that goes to the mags there wound not be grounded , then for it to feed back through, the switch would have to be off to ground the mags . I would think . Really weird

You sure both mags were working when you left the ramp. I am bad about just turning on both mags and running.
