0540 narrow angle valve issue

Post by Cooter69 » Wed Jun 15, 2016 10:20 pm

So I was riding last Saturday and had and issue with my motor, had bad vibration and when I stopped I had 4 studs broke on #5 cylinder 3 of the 3/8 ones and 1 of the 1/2 thru studs. My question is how does the thru stud come out ?? We where able to get cylinder off and no other damage except the studs. My guess is nuts came loose and caused this to happen, but need to get thru stud out to and measure and order correct part.

All advice is welcomed !!

you will probably have to pull the cylinder opposite from it and the stud will thread out but it will be a pain to do wile the case halves are together.

NO on the slide hammer , narrow decks have screw in thru studs , wide decks have drive thru through studs!

If you don't have time to do it right the first time ,
Where are you going to get the time to do it a second time?

My 540 did the same thing a couple years ago, call Jurnigan for info on which way it comes out, mine screwed out the same side as the broken stud and I only had to take off 1 cylinder and the opposing nut on the other side. Jr had a stud, I had a local machine shop make me a couple out of harder steel.
