gpu 220

Post by cowmanhutch » Thu Nov 17, 2016 9:13 am

Hey all.
I have been running my boat this fall up here in South Dakota and need a little help.
I bought this boat used and have no history on engine. She is burning through oil at 3 to 4 its per tank full. I know these engines burn oil but this seems excessive. My question is....Is there anyone up here in midwest that can do a to end rebuild that you all know?
What are prices for total rebuild? Being up here in South Dakota I have no idea about a gpu rebuild.
Thanks

That's a lot of oil but not unheard of on a gpu. That motor is just a non-flying aircraft engine so anyone that has ever done a top end on an aircraft engine can do it. Super simple job. Ducurra aviation will have all the parts necessary. No idea on price up there but it's probably a little more than a half day job (full day if you've never done one) for just rings and seals.

Is most going out the breather vent? My I suggest a air oil separator to " recycle " the oil going out the vent? They do cut the bleeding down considerably. Also when topping the cylinders make sure to switch to 4 ring Pistons you will then have a "dry" engine?

as Twister69 said if you have oil coming out of the breather, which is not uncommon on GPU engines, I would suggest an air/oil separator as well, we do have them custom made if you want one.

Try running this oil. And do the breather tube mod. I also ran an oil additive lucas oil stabilizer it helped a lot for my old gpu.

ID which cyls are burning oil and replace them. Those gpu's will run fine with good cyls.
