I picked mine up at preferred airparts...aircraft spruce has them also...but I bet any good engine builder here in fla has them....the part number is I think is LW11997 CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL with impregnated spring but double check....they are not cheap but worth every penny...I believe mine was about $75 9 yrs ago so might be close to a $100 by now

Was it solid or split?

I have not pulled the flywheel off yet to look. I can feel it dangling. I think it is solid. The spring part fell in my hand

Ok guys. I pulled apart today and it was a split seal with the spring. It did not look messed up so I put it back in and put the spring together and back in. However the seal went inn fairly easy. Is this normal???? Gmac 76??

If it won't stay I would get a solid unsplit seal , remove the spring, boil the seal in water, stretch it over the crank flange, put the spring back in and glue the seal to the case with weather strip adhesive . Make sure you let the adhesive cure completely .

what type of ahdhesive did ya use around the out side of the seal.....it is very important that the seal and the engine case be clean and dry and a high grade adhesive be used and the split be put at the proper position...some of them like mine actually have a 2 piece steel plate that bolts on to the case and helps hold the seal in place

That was a concern. It did not look like it had any adhesive on it before so I did not use any. I did put the split on the top. I don't see any sign of it having a plate that bolts on to help hold it inn place but I'm going to look again to see if that is a possibility. I have a 3m adhesive that I can use also.

I use hi tack on the seal and the ends of the seal split also offset the split from the case split I belive the manual says 11 or 1 oclock depending on the crankshaft rotation
