520 model ID

Postby Keeth1123 » Tue Apr 03, 2018 6:51 pm

Where is the plate that designates what variant the motor is. It is fuel injected, this much I know.

Looking to see horsepower range for it

If the plate is missing is there any way to tell. Internate claims these motors are close to 300 hp

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of ... ft_engines

This is the most comprehensive list of aircraft engines I have found. I have an O 520
But it is a O470 gpu build with Gitsu jugs. The numbers were attached to the case with aluminum tag from the factory mine are long gone as are most.
Happy hunting

How would one of these motors perform on a 12’6 x 7 diamondback hull

imo....with that kind of true hp on that hull with the right prop you would be very happy....especially if the rigging and all metal work were done right

Rigging is rear driver (2 single seats) and a double seat up front. I have never had a rear drive boat before.

imo it is alot of weight....alot of passengers for a 12' hull for real performance but hey it might do want ya want...ya got a lot of power....I had a buddy who had the same hull and setup with a 540 and it did ok.....he changed it to a single driver rear and a single passenger ...he said it was like having a totally different boat the way it preformed on the hill and in the water but his 540 was the 250hp so like I said ya got some power to work with

Anyway to tell if it’s the 250hp model of the plate is missing? I don’t plan on running 4, but it was that package. I was hoping for a single front driver, double rear. I’m looking for ride/hunt boat for two

Also, I thought these motors had to be leaned out to turn off but I didn’t see a lean/rich lever on the boat

how could it be a true io-520 and have only 250hp when the book on them shows 285 to 300hp ....my friends engine was a 250hp but it is a carbureted 540 Lycoming totally different animal... there is an engine kill lever on the io's on the servo....
