Oil temp sender on GSO-540
I'm having a problem I'm sure others have run into but haven't been able to find a tread here that talks about this problem. I removed the old aircraft temp sender on my GSO540 and it is a 5/8-18(fine) thread that seals with a copper gasket. Went with an Autometer electric temp gauge on the new build and the senders for the gauge are pipe thread, Called Autometer and the local NAPA store and no one seems to make an adapter to go from one to the other. Has anyone ran into this problem and how did you go about fixing it. Thought that maybe a hydraulic fitting might adapt it over but haven't been able to locate one of those either. Any help would be appreciated.

Couldn't you get a 5/8-18" plug , then drill and tap it to the size you need.
Just an Idea

5/8-18 is the thread size on a -6 size, 45 degree flare fitting.
Parker part number 46F-6-2 has a 5/8 threaded male flare end and a 1/8" NPT female, but the hex size is 5/8" (same size as the thread).
P/N 46F-6-4 has a 1/4" female NPT and an 11/16" hex, which may be large enough to match the copper gasket.
P/N 46F-6-6 has a 3/8" female NPT and a 13/16" hex which should definitely be large enough for the gasket.
The other option is a 5/8" bolt with a 15/16" hex, drill and tap for the pipe thread.

I still think I-10 is the Mason Dixon line.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll start looking for the Parker fitting tomorrow

Re: Oil temp sender on GSO-540
How do you like the GSO540. I wonder if it is worth converting back to one- My blocks a VO made to accept a gear box and we converted it to direct drive. I would have to get a crank and box. I alway wonder if it will eat more fuel or be about the same.

Ted I wish I could tell you this has been a build that has been going on for toooooo long for various reasons(some of it me but some of it others) I am looking forward to getting it in the water soon and I'll let you know.

Drill & tap to NPT (nominal pipe thread) , need not a washer with pipe threads. just don't get carried away tighting . the housing is aluminum. fyi put mine in vice between two blocks of wood for support while tapping. good luck

Summit racing. Looks like this is the fitting you need. Description is wrong I think. Should be 5/8-18 male straight thread and 1/4 female NPT.

Re: Oil temp sender on GSO-540
Thanks for all the input. I was able to go to a hydraulic repair shop and actually have a fitting machined to fit. Went together and looks like it will work out fine.
