Finally almost there !

Postby Dirtman » Wed Jul 10, 2019 8:36 pm

This might sound like a silly question but after a long journey I'm going to finally put some power to my new build and spin it over to at least get some oil circulating through it before I take it to get the ignition put on it. It's a GSO540, I got the oil tank from Hamant and it appears to probably hold 2-3 gallons. The oil cooler is new and the engine hasn't had any oil ran through it since the top end was done. Does anyone have any idea how much the cooler (large Heyden) might hold and where I should start with filling the tank. Never ran a dry sump before so not sure how much they will have that doesn't return to the tank. If this is making sense.

I run 4 gallons in my GSO 480 with no issues. With the GSO motors its important to use more oil capacity than needed for proper de-foaming in the sump. Also it helps if the sump is built right with layers of screen at different sizes to slow the oil down coming back to the sump (reduce foaming).

I run about 14 in my supercharged 480DD.. I try to always run the tank about half full. My dry sump e-series 520 I run roughly 12, and again run the tank about half full.

Finally filled up the tank and spun it over. 50 lbs of pressure just cranking with the plugs pulled I think it will be ok. Going to load it up this week and take it to have the ignition put on it and finish the build. Can't wait to get this thing in the water

Well I'm one step closer to cranking this thing. Big Thanks to Darrin Davis and Jerry Cypret, got my Pace Maker ignition installed and they did a jam up job. Now if this weather will straighten out I'll get the cage and prop installed and see how it runs
