Continental IO360

Postby rowdy1 » Mon Jul 15, 2019 11:30 am

Why is it that air boaters don't use the Continental OI360? I was surfing around last night and found plenty of them for sale. They are at least 210 hp and only 35 lbs heavier than a O360 that might only be 180hp. There has to be a reason and I'm curious to know why.

I believe they talked about this engine few years back, Wayne ‘Huntingbigun’ mentioned it not being a good candidate for airboat use due to the counter weight crankshaft and that engine needing to stay below 2700 RPM. I’m no a/c guy I’m sure you will get more input.

I downloaded the users manual. It shows all models @ 2800rpm except for the turbo. They are 2575 to 2750

They run just fine on an airboat, a friend of mine built one up, I decked the case .090", he put the biggest ratio pistons in it and had the cam ground, it is an impressive unit!
I never finish anyth,,,.

I know the hp is close to the Lycoming 360, I wonder if Cont. has more torque due to the 6 cylinder. Also, does it shake you fillings lose at idle like the Lycoming?

It's better than the 0360. Lycoming is 180 and continental is 210. The lycoming is a lot cheaper to rebuild and a lot easier. But the continental is a sweet running engine.
