I do not get the whole fuel cost thing to tell the truth. As much as these boats cost to buy and maintain the cost of fuel is nothing.

They are a survey company, most survey companys charge X amount to survey your property. So at the end,if the have to buy less fuel the profit margin go`s up. I see what your saying though, You rent your boats to folks, these guys own there own.

I own my boat and we run surveyors around as well as many other types, we are paid a flat rate for a 10 hour day and any thing past 10 is time and a half and they pay all exspenses as in fuel and perdium. Make no mistake before these guys owned their own boats they used someone like me to run them around so they know they ropes and you can bet the gas is billed.

I guess these guy’s don’t look at things like our congress. Maybe they have a different agreement or realize money wasted is money wasted. They told me THEY WERE SAVING MONEY AND INCREASING THEIR PROFIT THAT IS WHAT THEY TOLD ME!

May be getting a little of topic of talking about the motor. But its hard to speculate on what the deal is. I provide airboats for a testing facility that performs test for the US Military, NASA Space program, Prat Whitney, ect. We have three boats working tomorrow. Goldhunter and Floridacracker will be running thier boats along with myself. We are paid a flat rate for the boat for the day.As much as I hate to say it, the fuel cost is the responsibility of the boat owner. We can not get the gas billed. It all depends on the agreement. In some cases fuel savings is just part of the bottom line.

GM is going to be (if they aren't already) offering a crate motor version LSX 454 with 620 hp.
This isn't the big-block. It's the LS motor in cast iron rather than aluminum. Price is supposed to be between 12 and 14 K.

I think he is shooting for 700/700 on pump gas and that is a tall order to fill. I would love to see Dave do it too. I know it can be done with enough cubic inches are in play. :D

John C...your crazy agreeing to a days work on a boat without a gas per diem! Nobody down South would sign up for such a job without being well compensated. Especially if your working for the Gov't

Not working for the Govt. Working for an independant technology company that tests equiptment for the govt and others. The pay for the day is flat rate, not by the hour. However, it is a fair price. its a lot like when I was in the Army. Hurry up an wait. You get paid for the whole day, and most of the time only run the boat for two hours.

Some guys down here signed up with a survey company who ran them dry every day. Hope your making some good $$ because they can't do it without you and big $$ for their own boat!

Its a fair price. $500 to $1000 a day per boat, depending on the test. Usually the boats never leave the trailer. They are used for wind machines. never run more than a 1/2 an hour at a time. After 30 minutes they have to stop the test, check what ever they are testing for rips, leaks, fatiuge, ect, take pictures and document thier findings. most of the time it is wind and rain testing for portable hospital tents for the military that are headed for Iraq and Afganistan. They simulate a snow load test also for cold weather areas.
