What to do?? Tired of getting stuck!!!

Post by Mastergator »

I need some advise. I have a 14X8 Alumitech, full walkboards, 2 single seats, 1 triple, zz4 with stinger 2.38 box and a 3 blade Sensenich wide. The boat cruises great, runs great but just doesnt run the ground like i want it to. :violent1: The question is if I put a set of Sensenich "R" blades on it will this give push dry ground better. I'm also hoping "waterthunder" can find me one of the custom ground cams to get a little more power. :headbang: Any advise is greater appreciated.

Maybe try a soap sprayer to make things a little slicker. 8)

is that a 383 zz4 you speak of? Mine was turned into a 397 and did a whole lot for my barge.

you didn't say witch 3 blade sensenich you are trying on there now (S , R ,K, Q, H) the R's are supposed to be snappy but sill have good push the S is supposed to have great low end thrust

your going form WPB boats with aircraft motors to a regular hull with a car motor your expectations may be a little high  but like stinger said the spray may help some

A friend of mine has the heavest 14X8 with walk rails from Alumitec, plus polymer. Has a waterthunder on it. Will run dry with 4 people plus full 48 qt. Dave will know how to fix your problem.

I had the exact same set up before I went to a WaterThunder Motor you can put some 1.2 rockers on there and a MSD Ignition system and it will make a huge differance that's what Dave told me to do on my ZZ4 and it ran fantastic on dry ground

Switch to a 2.68 reduction if you are running the super wide blades. You need more gear reduction.

Rick its not the 383 zz4. Its the standard zz4 with about 330-350hp.
Goldhunter im running the standard "wide" now i think they were called H or maybe K.
Thanks for all the advise guys. Now i guess i need to find someone whos not going to knock my head off for a set "R" blades, put a sprayer on it and keep hoping waterthunder can find me a cam. :D :D
Thanks again

No cam only is going to get you where you need, you'll need a new valvetrain to withstand the new cam you speak of. Nothing for nothing, your block CRANK,heads(aluminum) are reusable for a bore job. If you really want to wake that thing up make it a 397,and swing 3 S blades. You'll waste your money buying R blades if you keep it the same way.....MY opinion

You could use a little more ratio to make a man out of that 350. When you go up to a 383 or biger you will notice a big improvement in performance. You can only wigle around so much with boxes and props but you have to have something to work with. got some r blades you could try if you are interested. i think a 2.55 or 2.68 coupled with the r blades would work best for you. hope this helps.

I'm kind of in the same situation as you, I have a zz4 355hp 350 with a 2.68:1 box and an 80" 3 bl R series prop. Love the boat, I go to the grass and fish at the microwave tower one weekend and I'm out on the flats west of Ozello the next weekend scalloping! However, I think 350 hp is underpowered for the weight we push, I think you need to get up into the 400+ hp range before you can start to "burn" the hill up with that big of a boat. Just my 2 cents, I'm sure WT and others will chime in, but I've tried everything with props and boxes and mine's better than when I started, but not where I want it. I did add a soap sprayer a couple of weekends ago and that did make some difference, but the jury is still out on that too.

make it a 397 and be done with it :D
Had a 383(425) no comparison to what I have now. I bet my barge is heavier then both of yours and it's 13.6/8

Jason,

You are welcome to try my 2.68 box. Hell, I will even help swap it out for you! Otherwise the only advice I could offer for getting stuck or excessive friction would be a liberal application of Astroglide!

No cheap way out. Throwing a set of R blades on it is not gonna make a Big difference. You need more power and/or gear ratio. It all depends on how much you want to put into it $$$. There is no easy magic answer. If you want it to run dry ground better you need to get some more power out of your motor and possibly change gear ratios. I think Rich and Dan have some good answers. I'm sure Dave (WT) could help you out a lot.

My Dad has the same set up that you have except he has a 2 to 1 gear box and a 2 blade 80" Falcon. He does have the hot cam in his zz4. But let me tell you it will run dry like no tommorrow. I haven't seen him get stuck yet. I seen him loaded down with alot of weight and go back in to the cabin bone dry with no problem and that is not an easy run by any means. So I would say your set up is not right or something. Because you have lower gear box 2.38 and a 3 blade prop. Keep working on it you'll get right.

With alll this talk of more HP has anyone thought to change motor angles and metal work positions first it is a lil work but a hell of alot cheaper to start with .For example my Bro in law has a big block with a gear box it ran the hill good we decided to play with the motor angles a lil bit and the damn thing turned into a hill burn . IDK its just a thought . Before spending thousands I would try shifting weight and setup around first JMO
