Cam for 383

What would be a good cam choice for a sbc 383. Flat top pistons, 461 heads 202 valves , 64 cc. It goin on a 12' boat 2.68 box. 80" r series prop. Lookin for 425hp if poss. Any input will help. Thanks .

I had Howards grind mine for my 383. It was perfect and I had 475hp on pump gas. They ground it so it would not beat my prop to death.

I had this cam on my 383. Steel vortech heads,flat top pistons mated to a 2.68 box and 3 80" "R" series blades. Turned them 5500 RPMs at pitch setting three. Boat ran great for as heavy as it was. It would idle at less than 700 RPM's and even with a Rotator was fairly quiet.

Around 236 to 238 duration at .050 and 500 or a little more on lift. Single pattern cam. 110 to 112 lobe sep.

Back in the 80's and 90's every 461X head was scooped up by all the roundy round boys for their thunder cars / limited sportsman cars. I have a buddy that still has several sets put away for a rainy day.

Exactly but from reading they tend to have cracking problems I'd get the dart eagle heads a good cast head

They have outlawed them at most tracks now. Don't wanna have all the guys fighting over the last few sets. They have started letting everyone use the World product equivalent to the regular 461 now.
