Oy Vey

Post by digginfool » Wed Sep 03, 2014 7:12 pm

I would start cussing but my rope's probably a little thin on SA right now. 8) Got the cage off and started disassembling everything. Took off port muffler and flex pipe and found some coolant; not much but not a good sign. Removed starboard side muffler and flex pipe and found a lot of oil and coolant. A really bad sign. This is not going to end well. I'm fairly positive I'm going to find a dumped valve, shattered piston and a cracked block, which is what I suspected from the moment the engine ceased turning. The oil and coolant just adds more evidence. Pulling starboard head off tomorrow. I'll post pictures of the carnage.

Everybody stirs the pot at some point or another. It just depends on when it's your turn to get the spoon. :stirpot:

Hopefully it's not as bad as you think, Best of luck.

Prepping the engine for removal and decided to pull plugs. I think I found the offending cylinder. :banghead: You know things were clanking around pretty good inside that cylinder to bend the plug that bad.

Don't be so sure that that is the only offending cylinder. I have seen lots of parts exchange places when one of these really grenade themselves

Holy sheep sheet!! Man, when I do it, I do it right. I didn't drop a valve like I thought; they're still in place but beat up pretty good. The wadded up piece of metal is part of what's left of the piston. I suspect broke a rod and piston fell into the crank which wadded everything up until it stopped turning. You can literally stick three fingers in the hole in the cylinder wall (2 fingers for you banana hands). You can see the wrist pin at the bottom; rod is curled into a knot. Can't wait to get it out. What a mess. So, open to suggestions. What's a good motor for a heavy 15 footer? I saw a thread from 2010 where Waterthunder wouldn't put an LS on a heavy boat or anything bigger than 16 foot. You still feel that way, Dave?
