You should be ok with 3 inches... the prop will flex away from the rudders anyway. Only chance of them getting together is if you bump something with the rudders and if that happens you have other issues. Did you have any height issues going from gear to belt? My Rotator is quite a bit shorter from shaft to shaft than my dad's belt drive. If I made the switch and wanted to use the same cage I'd have to lower the engine quite a bit.

I have 3 inches from prop to back of transom. so 3 inches should be fine. the biggest problem will be the fact that belt boxes are higher than gear boxes. I had to add about 6 inches to my cage to get the clearance I needed. so you will have to do some cage work to get it to work

nothing is written in stone. at least 4 inches, but no more than 6 has been a loose leaf standard for many decades. i just finished a boat and tried it out 3 weeks ago. i set it up for 4 inches, but when i put on this giant water walker prop i had a little over 2 inches clearance. after some swearing i took it out and tried it. steering is quicker, but works just fine. so try it--its called getting experience.

we had allready lowerd the engine mounts we used the corvett mounts super clean and easy I lowerd the center crank by 6 inches the biggest hurtle was that the belt box moved the axis in witch the prop runs on by 4 inches back must move the rigging foreward by 4 inches changing the waight load on the hull so I switched the gas tank directly under the engine and moved the battories foreward
i went from a bbc to a 6.0 aluminum motor loosing another 236 lb from the back of boat
according to my racecar scalesI moved the center waight 2 inches foreward gonna test tomorrow also added 3 jacks so I can fine tune hull
