383 Stroker question

Post by kwowens1963 »

any of you guys out there running a 383 sbc stroker, my question is where do you run your max rpm at, I am running a 3 blade sensenich R blade on a 2.36 stinger reduction drive, I have mine where my max rpm is around 5250, is this too low, too high or just right?

If it is doing what you want keep it where it is at. I run a 350 with a 2.38 box and cruise at 3100. My hill running wot is 5200 and and I can go anywhere. Adjust accordingly.

What kind of power are you putting out of your 383? What mark do you have your prop set to and what size prop?

thanks all of you guys for the responses, here is more info on my boat and motor, 15x8 aluminum GTO, 383 stroker, 474 HP at 5250 RPM dyno and 469 ft/torque, 3 blade R series, 82", stinger 2.38 reduction.

I guess my concern is that I know I can turn this motor more tan this but I have heard that the stroker motors run and stay together better at lower RPM's, my motor is brand new built by MAS, I just want to get the max performance out of my boat but engine longevity more than anything else

Stay within the warranty limits. Not much is gained past where u r. Sometimes with the higher ratio(numerically lower) ratio u will gain a noticeable amount by decreasing pitch but it will also increase cruze rpm. IMHO the tradeoff isn't worth the extra wear unless u jus want to hear that engine rev.

Mine does best at 5000 WOT. Running a 2.3 belt. Pitch is a little over the 2 mark on the 3 blade R.

Just out of curiosity, could you post the dyno graph for that engine ?
A friend of mine was asking me about peak torque and HP for one of those, and I didn't know.
I've known of a couple of them that were plenty strong enough, but he don't want to believe me. :?

what rpm was your peak torque made that what matters you might be able to run up at 5800 but might not be doing any good
