Alpha Fab/DynaMarine Cadillac LF3 Twin Turbo - 14' REVO Hull

Postby Alpha Fab » Sun Jan 11, 2015 8:30 pm

Hey Folks,

Thought I'd share a teaser on what will be the first Cadillac LF3 Twin Turbo in a stand-alone environment! Plans are for the wicked DynaMarine 14' REVO hull with stainless metalworks to get suited and prepped up first, coupled to a direct fit Ballistic Gearbox! We've currently got one being prepped for harness, ECM and engine dyno time. We've got another LF3 on the way, so we currently have two [2]. These won't stay here long! Initial assessment on HP/TQ number potential is 500 crank HP and 550 crank TQ at moderate boost levels, pump gas. Time will tell for sure, but production Cadillac CTS-V Sports with mild tuning are pushing ~ 450 wheel horsepower and ~ 510 wheel torque.

We're confident the crank numbers [500/550] are easily achievable.

We'll update this thread with pictures, video, information [as we get it] and progress as we move along!

Cheers & Happy New Year!

Is this the same motor Chuck was wanting to build?

AlphaFab bought a couple of these motors, not sure if it's from the same source as Chuck...but Shaun asked if we were interested in running one on a boat. Well that's a no-brainer.

Nothing is stopping Chuck from getting one of these motors...from what Shaun at AFI said there are a couple available. Hopefully Chuck finds a customer and gets to build one before he retires, no doubt it would be first class.

Please inform me on how anyone is stealing anyone's idea? Like CBM stealing TKE ideas, or Danzio stealing Redline's ideas? That doesn't make any sense. We've been developing this idea and platform for the latter part of FY14. I'm not going to post information about it until I have a logical path forward, engines in hand, and initial R&D on assessed performance IN HAND. It's taken us this long to get our hands on a couple!

We're just trying to offer different options to airboaters. How is that bad? If you can have LS power, less weight, better GPH, isn't that a good thing? But someone has to do it. There is a difference in talking about and doing it. We're doing it. Nothing against anyone or anybody, just doing what we do - innovate.

We don't operate in a vacuum. I've offered my opinions and technical assistance to many folks who are doing similar innovative things. Like Polaris. Like DynaMarine. Like Chuck. It's not like we think we'll be the only ones who will use this platform. But, we're trying to be the first to do it with a standalone harness and OEM GM ECM for airboats and off-road cars.

Thanks for the feedback.

What's the cost of this motor turn key? Now you are using factory turbo and not adding sounds like less shop work/cost. But the motor cost more obviously.

GM offers them new as crate engines for $8200 plus $2500 core [but good luck finding core]. But those prices will go down as they get older and more wreck. Some salvage places are asking ridiculous amount for them used as pull-outs. I've seen them go from $10K+. As far as these initial ones, Shane or Terry could give you an idea of boat ready turn-key pricing!

We will definitely be using the stock turbos on the first one. We're ditching the stock IC - it's small and easily heat soaked....

Plan is billet GTX turbos and lots of boost on the second one!

Anyone established in the airboat community knows that Chuck from AIrboat Pro's is the EcoTec and LF3 brainchild. Shizt a lot of people thought he was crazy fooling with the 1.4T from the Cruze but they can bring it!

That said, and knowing how helpful Chuck is, my bet he would be glad to offer up ideas and suggestions. Best of luck on the Revo build, I am sure the DynaMarine Team will build you a dream hull.

Looks to me like AFI offered to partner with Chuck on developing this engine.

I have nothing but respect for Chuck and his innovative forward thinking. I've spoken with him numerous times and have offered my help and services on numerous occasions. We see things differently on many things [we do things differently and focus on differnt platforms], but that doesn't stop me from repecting the hell out of him.

And that offer still stands. This a platform that will help develop the community.

Thanks Shaun, you and Shane are going in the right direction. Their is no reason not to use this engine to power airboats. If it was not bullet proof, you would not find it in the new Cadillac's. This engine will make a lot of V8's take a back seat. I can't wait to see it running and maybe Shane would give me a ride on it.

Thanks, Chuck
