Looking to get some more power. Any suggestions?

Post by Bloodybayou » Tue Sep 29, 2015 2:02 pm

Hey fellas, I'm very new to airboats. I bought my 17' alumatech about a month ago. It's got a 350 small block in it. My boat is rigged up for Bowfishing so I can run some charters on the side. I'm noticing that with 5+ people she's having a tough time getting on plane. Peddle to the floor she's only running 5400 RPMs. Any suggestions or advice would be helpful thanks!

A 17' boat with 5 guys loaded for bowfishing is a lot to ask of a small block.

Easiest way to make it perform better would be to leave the 2 biggest guys home :slap:

There is no replacement for displacement! Need some bore and stroke in that girl.

Do yall think adding any performance parts would help? Like maybe a super charger or something. I don't know what the gears are but it's a 3 blande carbon fiber prop

I run an 18x8 with a mild BBC, 1/2" poly and 3 row seating. I have run 9 people regularly, a 100 lb dog, 2 loaded coolers, and 40 gals and maxed out about 45mph. Dry she is very temperamental though. Cruises around 4-4200rpms at 26mph or so

I dont see a cheap upgrade.

A Paxton / Vortec style supercharger would be the path I would explore if everything else can support it. They are the compact units that are a blow thru design you see in Summit and Jegs.

That it will even move with 5 men and all that weight on front is a wonder,.Weight on front is a killer, had a 454 bb on 15/8 with simlar bow fishing rig,got stuck often, tool the rig off the front and it was a whole lot better.
