BBC to SBC swap
BBC to SBC swap
I recently locked my 454 up on my boat and I'm thinking of swapping to a SBC. My question is; if I have a 95 4 bolt main that's been bored .40 over and I want to put Vortec heads and a VooDoo cam with Duration 256/262, Lift .454/.468, Dual plane intake, and a Holley 750 on top, what kind of power should I expect?

Re: BBC to SBC swap
I think you'd be close to about 400 HP.
750 carb may be too much.

wont have even close to torque the bbc had unless you build a 383

Lots of factors missing from your overall setup but the 454 is heavy piece.
If you don't have a bunch of blades and it's not necessary to have big HP then the small block should suit you just fine.

Re: BBC to SBC swap
Curious, no one asked about the other unknown parameters.
Not sure how to guesstimate HP without knowing engine size and expected RPM ?
For all we know, it could be a DD; there is nothing mentioned otherwise. If not, what ratio ?
Seems like having only partial cam specs, leaves the bigger, more relevant variables unknown.

All the go fast parts in the world will not substitute for CI, torque is what you want. There is nothing wrong with a small block, I personally love SBC. I would strongly recommend if you are going to use a SBC that you spend money on whats really important and purchase a stroker kit. You can get a low budget 383 stroker kit off ebay for $700. That's a new crank rods pistons, rings, etc, etc.
