2014 2.0 turbo Ecotec stand alone tune

Post by gator7272 »

Does anyone have any info re: stand alone tune technicians? Chuck has been waiting nearly 3 months for Trifecta/WOT. This is so frustrating in this era of technology. Alpha Fab is finally supporting this platform but not at an affordable price, $2200 for the ECM and harness, they won't simply provide a tune. Thanks in advance...

I have only heard of alpha and Chuck/trifecta. I know one or two private people in Broward/miami who were/are good tuners with hptuners on ecotec in gm vehicles. Anwhere from turbo swapped ecotec to supercharged g8 on e85. Don't know if they could/would tune but pm me if u want me to contact them with ur number after I ask them.

Online names italianjoe1, darkmanx, and blaxxinbalt.

Well, I tune my own now so that d-bag at Trifecta can pound sand.

You can tune your own too with HP Tuners.

I can steer you in right direction if you PM me.

SO good to be free of Trifecta clowns.

If Russ can't help ya you can try Vermont Tuning. Learning to do it yourself will be a valuable tool so Id take him up on his offer.

Trifecta was giving Chuck some grief when he was finishing mine and I havent personally emailed Vince in a while.

Tell Chuck hello.

Russ,

Yesterday was the best that I had seen your boat run. The new tune that you did is definitely better than the old tune. Your EcoTurd ran 2 straight miles of dry in the middle of Gardner's Marsh with 3 people on the boat. Not too bad for a turd. 8)

Russ

Where/How did yall do the thrust testing for your boat? I am curious as I'd just like to know what my little 4 banger actually is producing.

Dave is on this forum, drop him a PM.

Thanks Russ. Not headed to Florida for a while so Dave is out. Was curious if a i could find an affordable way to do it. Might get a wind speed meter and do the math to see if its remotely close

Russ,

I have had some tuners recently tell me they need a VSS signal for the power tables. I am curious how Trifecta and HP Tuners handles this? The group I talked to use EFI Live.

HP tuners emulates speed for VSS based on a rpm to speed ratio you set. I may have that technically a bit wrong, but it is something like that.

We specifically set that table constant to 70 on mine. This ecu and harness I have thinks speed is always 158 mph otherwise so we enabled the vss emulation, or whatever it is called.

There are vss devices out there that will provide a vehicle speed based on GPS. I don't know anything about them however....

Hope that help?

I'm in the process of assembling my ecotec boat I will be running microsquirt as my standalone and I will not need a vss , I also have full control over ve tables , I have used this system and tuned multiple v8 hope to have it done mid January ,

What ecotec engine are you using?

If you are using a microsquirt, I suspect your engine is not GDI but rather MPFI.

Nothing wrong with that mind you, just pointing it out so others don't get confused.

Tuning MPFI engines is relatively straight forward with readily available electronics.

Tuning GDI engines is an entirely different matter since stand alone systems are prohibitively expensive.

My suggestion is if you aren't GDI, be sure to use at least 2.68 reduction. Torque just isn't there at low RPM on MPFI ecotec builds with turbos. Possible with super charger builds, but those are inefficient fuel wise.

Good luck on your build!

Yes mine is not Gdi. I am using d207r 2.0t high pressure version
I have built a couple of these for the import world and have made reliable power very close to what the gdi can make . And I have control of all the tuning parameters.

I may remove the stock turbo and. install a procharger I have sitting around to assist in the bottom torque concern , but only if I can't get the boost up down low , my boat is only 11 foot and a two seater I don't need to make 400+ hp I only need to make around 260hp and at that hp level on gas or e85 it will be very easy on parts and should go anywhere I need it to go
