Going to have new boat built soon

Postby Coastslider » Tue Feb 19, 2019 7:06 pm

I’m going to have a new boat built by GTO in the very near future. Either 16x8 with 509 BBC or 15x8 with LS3. Both will be 3/4 deck walkarounds. BBC is 520hp/610ftlbs torque, LS3 is 550hp+/560ftlbs torque and all aluminum supposed to weight about 390lbs or so. Question is longevity. Which one do ya’ll think would last longer ? I don’t really care about fuel consumption so that topic doesn’t matter to me.

LS3 out of those options hands down. more power, less weight, easy parts and at that power level all day long reliable.

Good luck!

X2 on the LS3. Especially if you are going to run any saltwater. My family's 502 has some some nasty rust areas for staying out around steinhatchee and pretty much only running salt water when we do take it out.

OK well I'm for the bigger boat and BBC

It will just be a more enjoyable ride since you are going to be a Gulf boat.

15 x 8 with the LS3. I run a 16 now but I’d get a 15 if I did it again. GTO builds a nice boat. I’ve beat the crap out of mine for almost 14 years and it’s still in good shape. On the fourth poly bottom now. I run the gulf 95% of the time.

I run 16x8 with a PCM/Levitator 6.0 325ish HP, 12” walk arounds, three blade sensenich K series. Boat was Hillsboro county’s . I go where I want no issues. Ran all of Kissimmee last weekend seen tons of boats stuck. If it was me I wouldn’t run a BBC over the LS3 on a boat this size. On a larger boat or a 16x8 tour boat,6/8 pac would do the Id go 540. I run the gulf I little I also have a deep boat. As far as reliably there is tons of LS powered airboats with 1000’s of hours on the clock and still going just fine. I’ve also heard a lot more 502’s failing than LS powered rigs.

I say go with the Ls, that is plenty of power to push a deep sided 15x8 and should be a point and go boat loaded down. Has to be a reason most car motor boats being built now are Ls powered. More power, less weight, plenty reliable.
