I have about 4" clear right now with the 73" prop. So without a new cage I will be limited to 76" if im ok with 2" clearance. I was thinking of going with a 74" and calling it good. How much difference would 1" make..............

74 inch 3 blade Maximus.

Dont even bother looking elsewhere if you want a tractor and 50 to 60 mph is enough.

My old stock turbo engine with 76 maximus hit 69mph before I had to let out due to my setup was not safe enough at speed (on nose bad).

Here's the video for proof of that. Start watching just before 9 minutes. This was over 6 years ago.....Boat weighed 1739lbs with no fuel, no gear, no driver at the time. Today it weighs 1400 or so with an extra 100hp, 4 more inches of prop (80) and the same 2.38 ratio, but it's an Ox vs that noisy rotator in this video.

I bought a intercooler kit from CX racing. $208 I think. Clamps, couplers, and pipe seem to be real good quality. The intercooler end tanks are cast and real smooth on the inside. The tube and fin look good. I’m going to use this kit to run it on the stand outside of the boat. If it does well I’ll use it in the boat. If not I’ll get another intercooler and reuse most of the pipe and other stuff. I plan to check inlet and outlet temp and pressure to get a feel for how it performes.

My plan is to only have couplers on each end. Everything else will be welded when in the boat.

Fuel filter is from JEGS. Around 130GPH at 75PSI. You can disassemble and clean the stainless screen. Rated to 150 PSI.

Because there is no place to bolt a ground wire to the ECU I assume gounding the case is not necessary. It must only need the ground thru the harness. Correct?

The ECU question got me thinking, would the hardware to attaches it to the automobile not provide a grounding location for the module?

While the old GM 4 pin HEI is 44 plus years old, ironically we find module failures are very commonly associated with persons failing to properly ground the distributor. I am curious to hear Russ give the answer to this on your build.

ECM main ground is in the wiring harness not via the case. Usually one pin in X2 and another via X3 going to a single eye to bolt to the block

Swamphunter, there is no good way to ground the case is why I was thinking it’s not required. Not a single bolt hole or threaded boss anywhere. I’m actually curious as to how they secure this ECM in the car to keep it from bouncing around. I originally thought it had to be grounded.

Of course the only ECM’s I have messed with are old Toyota trucks and they are bolted down.

You already got the ground answer. Super simple thankfully.

As to how it is mounted in vehicles....they use an injection molded housing that fits over the outside of the PCM and then that is bolted down. Somewhat like a glove with the glove bolted.

That's how mine is and has been since 2012.

I think you can just set it on some silicone pads and zip tie it down real well and call it a day.

Use 40A to 60A Durometer.

I got a big head last night. Too much cheap whisky. I’ll share some more big fish with you guys if y’all want to see them. 1994 till about 2014 we shot more state record book fish on my buddies boat “THE HEAVY METAL” than should be allow. 40 something top 10 fish if I remember correctly.

I know the connectors are pretty water resistant but I am thinking about putting a solid aluminum cover with an open bottom to keep rain off the PCM but still allow air flow. Does it generate much heat? I’m thinking maybe it does with the abundance of fins it has.

The pcm is very water resistant. Mine is out in the open right next to the prop. I wouldn't worry too much as long as you dont put any holes in it.

Mines been submerged and cranked back up again... don't worry about a bit of rain and moisture.
