Ls1 hp question

Post by BISHOPWASHERE »

Hey guys bought ls boat recently wondering how a few people would guess the horsepower rating it has. Was told it’s stock out of a 2003 Corvette its carbureted (not sure how to tell what carb :dontknow: ) has msd ignition and headers. Swinging a 79” 6 blade saber 5600rpms. Looking for hp numbers for curiosity and considering trying out a 3 blade.

Well if it is an 03 From a corvette they offer 2 options ls1 and LS6. Both are aluminum block, so if is an iron block it is not an LS1 or LS6. Main difference is heads and cam. Factory rating ls1 350hp LS6 400hp. You have no Power steering pump or A/C so maybe a tad over those numbers.

IF the heads weren't changed the LS1 would mostly have 241's and the LS6 would have 243's.

How do you get to iron from the ops post regardless of MSD additions?
Better ignition is worth 10-30 and cams are worth 80 plus. Good gas another 10-50 to not self destruct with a bad tune?
Op never said pump gas or tune or 110 or e85 so most are hesitant to guess, other than what the op says the prop is and turns!
Any guess to the hp or torque that prop demands set on ?

It would help to know what the 6 blades are set on presently? The prop pitch alone could hold 100-200 hp in a guessing game?

Appreciate all the help and your questions. I’m trying to find out what degree the prop is set at I figured that would help with guessing hp rating. I run 93 pump gas. I was also looking for a few people’s experiences with similar setups that would know there horsepower due to already doing some of this research. Is it possible to dyno the motor with a gear box and prop set up in the boat?

Proto Op said was told stock 03 from a Vette. Offered factory HP for both models of vette motor for that year. It did appears he may not know what motor he, so I offered up a few item to help figure out the base motor he was working with. If it was an iron block it did not come from a corvette plus a way to possible identify if it was ls1 or ls6.

Good,
Highly doubt the carb on the ls from early 2000's was a rodchester or carter in ls1 or ls6 format!
The ultimate question was turning breakable blades in an unkown format of gear or pitch also.
Junk is junk as I see it, and potential is potential!
This site has way to much knowledge to ignore on the search options but granted, an ls turning 5 skinny blades is subject to make most wonder why in the first place?
A extra blade is 6 degrees off a topped out ls in the same format.
Unknown what the op is attempting to achieve since no gear or pitch was relayed

On the righthand side of the head. Front Passenger side and rear of the drivers side head just below where the valve cover and head meet
