Event attracts nation's best airboaters

The event is aptly named -- Thunder of the Loup.

On what was otherwise on any other day a quiet, serene stretch of the Loup River north of Palmer, Saturday there was the roar of powerful 600 horsepower big block engines on some of the bigger airboats disturbing the quite of this peaceful flowing river. Nearly 80 airboaters were on the river for the competition, though not all were competing.

Along the banks of the Loup River, watching and rooting their favorite racers, were several hundred people, sitting in lawn chairs, sipping cool beverages under the shade of the giant cottonwood trees that lined the river banks.

We hope you get a bunch together and come on up. We enjoy getting to know others from the differant parts of the country and sharing some of the beauty of our rivers. It is also fun seeing the different boats and learning from others.
