Volunteer Airboating Sportsmen-Conservationists from across Florida and the Southeast will gather at Loughman Lake Lodge near Mims, Florida to dedicate a ride to raise funds and donations for needed items to send to our troops overseas. The event, scheduled for December 16th at 10:00 A.M., has been named "Operation Airboat II". The airboats will arrive with more than life jackets and ice water on board. These boats will be bringing along "care packages" filled with comforts from home for our United States soldiers. They will also be giving a tour of Florida's scenic St. John's River to some veterans of Operation IraqiFreedom/Enduring Freedom.

Representatives from several airboat clubs throughout the state are organizing the ride. Those involved are hoping to give something back to those who have given up so much for all of us back home. According to ride coordinator Adam Wetherington, a member of the Florida Army National Guard, "This is the second of these rides that we are putting on. The original one was so successful that there was an immediate response from the troops overseas as well as the participants here at home calling for another one".

Non-perishables, such as beef jerky, sunflower seeds, hard candy, powdered drink mixes and Ramen noodles and items such as toothpaste, sanitizing wipes, feminine products, decks of cards, pen and paper will fill the care packages. Air boaters will also be donating cash for postage and shipping. Pictures will be taken during the ride and photos will be included in each package mailed.

The public is invited and encouraged to participate in the donation process. Items will be collected in the morning before the ride at the boat ramp at Loughman Lake Lodge, 1955 Hatbill Rd. Mims, Florida.

If any members of the media would like to participate in the ride, they are encouraged to contact Adam Wetherington prior to the day of the event and he will gladly arrange for a seat on a boat.

For more information you may contact Adam Wetherington at (904) 214-9336.

That looks real good, Adam. Thanks.
I like it that you thought to include the public in the donations. Hope we get some.

Never doubted you Adam, first class. I hope this one is bigger and better than the last one and we all remember what that rascal looked like.

Thanks...I actually kinda just borrowed Woodswoman's original one for the first ride and used it as a template of sorts. She then gave me some good advice as to making it more effective. Thanks Lauren!!!

I sent it to the local radio stations here as well as a couple in Orlando. Hitkicker, Wa1a, K92fm, Rock 101.1, 95.1 the beat. I think that is it.

Linda Naughtin from programming at WFTV in Orlando emailed me to let me know that it is up on their events calendar on their website. Maybe they will decide to join us.

Just put the press release up at Florida Sportsman .com
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming " what a ride!"

A1, thanks for posting that link. I was having trouble trying to print the release off the thread without having part of it cut off. The link has it downsized enough to print the whole thing.
