8 HP briggs setup

Postby dick2256 » Wed Dec 05, 2012 9:52 am

any one on here that has a picture of the 8Hp set up
for a small mini airboat have a prop for one and a good motor
just wondering if you would run like a outboard motor on a swivel
and not use a rudder

That sounds feasible to me, but I honestly don't have a clue.

You will probably a better response if you posted directly to the Mini-Aiboats forum.

That link is here: http://www.southernairboat.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=57

Alternatively, if you send WhiteBear a PM and ask him, I'm sure you could move this thread over there for you. :)

For those who didn't follow his build ... dick cut that hull in half lengthwise and added width to it ... welded it back together and added polymer ... and I think that is a corvair engine ... and he is no spring chicken either .. he can add his age I wouldn't want to get it wrong. He built it to run a rocky shallow river up north ... he did a heck of a job using what he had to work with .. old school ingenuity and sweat equity ... kudos Mr. Dick
Don't waste your time ... it is the only thing you can't get more of
.. if it accidentally looks like I gave advice please ignore it .. and notify me immediately

Dang Dick! :blackeye: I spent 3 hours uploading them and sent them to dick2256@live.com on Wed, Dec 5, 2012 at 1:41 PM. I was wondering why I never heard back from you. :dontknow: i just figured you were another one of those that come on here, get your answer, and then leave folks. You might want to check your spam folder or something. For good measure here they are again... This was copied right from the email I sent you.

How did you end up setting up that 8hp Briggs? With a tiller or with rudders? Did you use a reduction or direct drive? I've got a little hull and an 8hp honda laying around and I've been daydreaming...

Thanks PeaRiver, I tried clicking those links and it said they weren't available anymore, how'd it turn out?

I've got an 8x(maybe)3 foot landau Jon boat hull, and I ran into a guy this week with the same boat and a 3.5hp outboard and he said he could get it to plane out with him and his fishing gear. It got me wondering if I could use the Honda 8hp horizontal shaft 4stroke I have laying around to get me up on a plane. Like I said, I'm just daydreaming at this point, just curious what prop I could use, if I could do it direct drive, etc.

I was thinking using the 8hp to make a mud motor, but an airboat would be more fun

Hmmm... not sure why they won't work for you. I just clicked on them and was reminiscing.... and chuckling lol.
You'll def need a reduction. I used belts and pulleys. I got my props from Robin at Rnd props in ga. Not sure if he's still doing them. Aarow prop is though... i think. There's several small prop mfgs now because of the bowfishingfan boats. Another one is powerfin. Www.surpluscenter.com will be your gold mine for a project like this. Look back thru my old post and maybe you can find some pics I've posted. It's a shame the photobucket wont load bc they're all there. Feel free to give me a call sometime if you decide to give it a try. 334 247 7711. My biggest problem is that I didn't have enough hull displacement. Don't cut yourself short there!
