Harley motors

Postby DSBoutdoors » Thu Sep 07, 2017 3:24 pm

I just bought a mini airboat its my first endeavor into a life long dream. However the motor needs replaced. What are the thoughts on using a Harley Davidson engine for the power. Has it been done or tried and was it worth doing. I do have access to some harley motors and am a pretty decent mechanic. Doing some fab work doesn't really bother me.

The guys at Hartline did a "black Widow" boat around 2003 with 2 Harley motors on it, with custom belt drives. The boat was to heavy and did not perform well. I think it was around 11'- 12 ' feet long. Those motors are not happy @ a constant 4500 rpm.

Might want to consider a Rotax with a gearbox...

As PapaJack suggested Rotax builds some serious compact hp.

My CanAm ATV runs a 1000 Rotax and it is a beast of a V2 engine about the size of a 12 pack and makes 90hp.
