When I was Drag racing a Top Fuel Harley, (1980) I had a Lanyard on my right wrist that was hooked to an ignition kill switch,,,

After the lights I would release the Full Dump throttle grip and shut off the Fuel valve,,,

I had a 1/4 mile to slow down and stop,,,

No ignition, no fuel,,,

Then it was just God and gravity, and prayers that I got it stopped in time,,,

I know I had ALOT more time to do this than Brad did,,,

I am sure that ya'll are gonna come up with a safe and secure system,,,

I am just thankful that no one was hurt,,,

Thats a good idea but it wouldn't have solved the barrel valve problem. My last 2 unlimited boats had such a pedal with a loop and it didnt work when the barrel valve stuck. My opinion is the boats should have a hold down push button ignition. I have seen three times a throttle has stuck and the driver told me they pulled on the lanyard but it was to long or they couldn't find it. If you have a hold down button you can kill the engine immediately, if the driver gets thrown from his seat the motor shuts off immediately, When Nitro expresses throttle stuck they totaled it because the thing just topped out and run hundreds of feet to far it kept going and going and when Brads stuck he wrecked the hull in both cases they pulled the lanyard but it just stretched if they both had a hold down ignition button they could have killed both engines immediately at the 400ft mark. I doubt anyone will do this but all of my fast boats will have this because my wife drives them often and also for my own personal safety.

A hot engine will not just shut off if it still has nos and fuel going to it. If that senario happens a kill switch only reduce the rpm slightly, IT WILL NOT KILL THE ENGINE.

Don't know why I didn't think of this before, but why couldn't an air shut off be used. We run one on our race truck before the turbos. Had the injection pump hang one time and that is enough to scare the ever loving crap out of you and seriously endanger bystanders. If it is enough to stop a 1200 hp twin turbo diesel it should stop a gas engine. No air = no run.

A kill switch can be wired to something remote, correct (not wireless, but on say a 4' cord)? It sounds like the problem is the driver not having enough hands and feet to handle everything at once in the event a shutoff is needed. What about wiring a switch to a mouth piece the driver can somehow bite if he needs to shut the engine off?

Think opposite side. Intake between filter and carb/throttle body. We run a gillitine (sp) style.

The kill button I prefer will be inside the rudder stick where your hand already is all you do is hold it down to run and let go to kill it!

This will solve any problems.

Painkiller you do understand a manual N2O shut off valve will not work right. Think about when you crack open a N2O line and let it bleed off so you can change a bottle it takes awhile and at that rate think about how long it will flow thru a .080 size jet. So after you shut off the valve your engine will run for 3 or 4 seconds this will not work.

Remember nobody has to do ity any way but me if a throttle was to stick on my wife all she has to do is let off the button and the engine shuts off. Until I come up with a way that is better that's to me is by far the safest, quickest and simplest way.

2 years ago I had a throttle sticking on my unlimited boat with Jimmy driving If anyone remembers he ran off the end of the track and up on the bank. Didn't hurt the boat and we ran it again in the next round and went on to win Unlimited that day because we have live remote monitoring on our ignition system we checked out all the ignition coil drivers and Shawn help his finger on the enter key as Jimmy ran down the track if Jimmy ran past 430 ft Shawn would kill the ignition coils. So we continued to run. Jimmy was very happy to know we could kill the ignition if the throttle stuck.

I hope not to ask a dumb question here, but since some folks express concern for loss of air on rudders, is it possible to disable half the coil packs? Put the motor in "limp mode" by button or remote?

With the motor still running, he had the ability to continue steering his boat. From what I understand of this situation, if he wasnt able to steer, the outcome might have been worse. Since he was still able to steer, I think he avoided going off the track sooner than he did.

If you turn the boat off you can not steer the boat and may take a quick turn and hit fans or turn sideways and fly. Also if the prop comes to a complete stop going that fast they act like a parachute and the boat wants to stop but all the stoping force is in the back of the boat and the front will lift which will cause the boat to also fly. <---------- From what I hear that is.
