Affordable Airboat Communication

Post by CenTexAirboater »

Has anyone used or own an affordable 2way intercom setup with music input ports? Is it reliable and worth the money?

Affordable Airboat Communication is an Oxymoron. Derived from a greek word that means sharp-dull. It is a figure of speech that combines contradictory terms i.e. Ground pilot

I have a set of Sampson Racing intercoms and they have a music input and a adapter that hooks to my stereo in the boat, I couldn't afford the other sets, these cost about $600.00 with 2 headsets, it will take up to 6 headsets. They have a advertisement in Airboat magazine and Marsh Rider.
I don't follow trails I make them, 15 x 8 Alumitech,496 Stroker bbc,2.3-1 belt drive 82" 4 blade R.

There are a few ways to go that can be "cost effective" depending on what you need and what your budget is :thumbleft:

At $299 this system works great, you can add music or scan a radio, and add more headsets inline
http://www.srcproducts.com/product.sc?p ... egoryId=17

You can do 2 headsets, that are noise cancelling, offer hearing protection, and with 2 radios for under $400.
http://www.sampsonracing.com/Dual_Muff_ ... p/h-25.htm

When you start adding a intercom your looking at about $550
http://www.sampsonracing.com/Offroad_Tw ... w--h25.htm

and a 4 place system with headsets just over $1000
http://www.sampsonracing.com/4_Place_In ... adsets.htm

Feel free to call and ask any questions.

Cheers, Shawn

Racing Electronics has a set up that works on an airboat. It is push to talk, and works great. I got a systrem (2 headsets) preamp, and a cord for my ipod, and I think it was $300.00 about 3 years ago..... probably a little more now. I use them every weekend, and they work great.

Yes I know push to talk is not a easy as VOX, but I can hear my music, and my passenger great. The system will take 4 headsets, but I only boght 2 headsets.

It was the Gemini system, you need to tell them its for an airboat, cause you don't want to buy the scanner.

Cheap relatively speaking, and it has 3 or more years hard use - still works great.

Good Luck

Although the setup I have doesn't have music input, it's cheap:

For music, I use ear buds to my cellphone... However, the wife is always complaining that I can't hear her via the intercom over the music... :)

I really like my rugged radios intercom. Just do a search for rugged radios and you will see the thread Papajack is referring to.

I always thought one of the greatest things about Airboating was the fact that you can't communicate while it's in operation.
Last thing I will ever buy for an Airboat is any kinda intercom

Look up Rick powers at www. Yourtalkingnow.com I have 4 sets of wireless headsets that hook up to my phone so I can listen to music or talk on the phone or talk to 4 people on the boat. I don't have to worry about wires because they are wireless. They are awsome!!!!

Absolutely, without a doubt, Rick's set-up is one of the best.
His customer service has been outstanding and @ $220- or so per headset this is by far the best deal on headsets.
They work extremely well, are crystal clear, and have a couple hundred yard range. They are light, rechargable, and work with phones, music, etc... all blutoothed.
I had a set of Piratecoms that cost about $1400- for a 4 person wired intercom. The customer service SUCKED and all I heard were excuses every time I had an issue (often....as in every ride).
Again, HIGHLY recommend Ricks wireless intercom.
Since they are wireless, we have found many other uses besides running in the airboat. They work great for talking to the vehicle driver while backing down the ramp (no more hand signals and rear view mirror spotting), you can take off from the boat and investigate shoreline yet still talk to the boat, heck....my wife mows the lawn with them bluetoothed to the radio and listens to tunes while mowing the lawn!

Ricks are the sena smh10, do it yourself for 300 a pair, it's not rocket science. I built mine 5 years ago whenever the smh10 first came out.
