Post by RufflingFeathers » Mon Feb 25, 2013 11:37 am

Now ive been told you have to get a certain kind of radiators for airboat applications... Is there a reason behind this? I have a sb 350 and would like to know what kind of radiator i need. Im running a 2.3 to 1 ch3 belted drive.... any help would be greatly appreciated...

if you want to do it the easy way just call one of the boat manufacturers and buy the right on to start with .. money can be saved on jegs or summit or ebay .. while you are at it some suggest a burp tank .. I have never used one myself but I wouldn't want to give advice and your engine get cooked because something got lost in translation .. so again follow manufacturers advice is the easy safer way ... or just wait a few minutes and somebody will tell ya
Don't waste your time ... it is the only thing you can't get more of
.. if it accidentally looks like I gave advice please ignore it .. and notify me immediately

There is no secret to cooling an airboat. But it does take some common sense (which isn't that common any more).
The manufacturers have done all the work for you and have tried and true combo's that will effectively cool your boat.

This is the radiator you should buy. It is reinforced on the corners, has no radiator cap, has mounting brackets and is plenty
big enough. The mounting plates are a big deal for you. They should make it easy to adapt to your engine stand. There should have been a radiator with brackets fabricated for your engine stand when it was done but obviously that has not happened.

The only decision you need to make next is whether to run an expansion tank or not. I am a fan of them but they are not needed if you have some patience. I set up the cooling system on two SBC boats. Each will run under 150* in all conditions without a thermostat. One has an expansion tank and the other has an long filler neck on the the thermostat housing. The only disadvantage to the non-expansion tank system is that it will take some time and patience to get all the air out of the system. With the expansion tank it only takes about 30 seconds of running.

I like this tank. http://alumitech.net/shop-here/#!/~/pro ... id=1456531

or this filler neck and thermostat housing if you are going tankless.

Go ahead and get this thermostat also.

They are the best and will stick open not shut if they fail.
