How to remove swirls after polishing your boat?

Post by Jake.R »

I just polished my whole boat and the sides and top of the transom has a lot of swirl marks in them, is there any way to get rid of these? Doesn't look too bad just very particular about my stuff. Here's what I used below and I used a paper towel to wipe the polish off after applying it and letting it dry. Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

You need more than that. Need to sand it first then hit it with a sisal wheel with some hard polish that comes in bars.

Go on the ZEPHYR 40 site and buy one of their kits for polishing and follow the instructions, worked for me.

we use sheep skin pads buffing out Lear Jets and boats, also a little flour will take the black specs out, slow down speed of the buffer, work small areas and keep a clean pad no matter what you use as a agent. Flitz, FLash, Metall, or any of the new stuff works well but takes time

McGuire's makes a swirl remover. I have used it on my vehicles with amazing results. How well it would work on bare aluminum I have no idea. I do know it makes quick work of swirls on a paint job though.

Thats out of my league i'd have to pay someone to do that, if i touched it with a sander i cant imagine the outcome lol

okay ill check them out! thanks!
JAKE, did you make them dual trolling motors like that or is that a kit??
No i did not they came on the boat, im pretty sure you can buy them as a kit but they are really expensive. If you are pretty crafty, im sure you could buy some trim tabs and make your own. If you ever get serious about it i can pm you more picutres of mine and you can get a better idea of that you need to do
Purple Polish and Deoxidizer.
I thought about purple polish before i started but already had this other stuff so i though id give it a try. Do you really think its gonna remove all those swirls? just curious? I dont mind buying it if its gonna work. Thanks!

Flour as in the flour you put in your food? that could possibly be my problem i did the entire boat with one buffing pad i definetely didnt keep it clean, i would do an area by hand but the electric buffer would do so much better i just did the whole thing with that and it was spinning full speed maybe that was part of my problem haha. I'll be sure and keep a clean pad, its just hard bc the boat was so nasty and neglected it only takes a minute before the pad is nasty. Thanks!

Alright kajun next time i stop by the store ill read the label on the back and see what it works on, Thanks!

Jake, if that is the only pad you used that is partially the problem. Finish her off with a wool skin pad on high applying little to no pressure. 3M makes some great stuff also to remove swirls. In fact, get 3 of those wool skins. Apply with one, remove with one, and buff with the third. It might just work. It's a work in progress right?

Yeah that's the one! I remember you endorsing it in the classifieds when it was for sale, I'm finally getting it right after spending a ton of money on it. The motor was complete junk! Nothing that your friend said it was. And the boat was nasty I've easily spent 10 hours cleaning it lol. The dirty part is my fault for buying it, its amazing what thick oil/dirt will cover up. But I'm finally getting close to having it done. Cleaned and polished it, rebuilt the motor $3500, repainted it, rewired entire thing, and a
Few other misc things! Finally looking like a real nice boat! Can't wait to have it done, just in time for summer too :thumbleft:

Probably get by with 1 bottle of PMP. If it has never been polished I would recommend the
Deoxidizer first.

The best results I have found have been with wet sanding down to about 1500 or 2000 then the proper wheel, mirror finish that lasts, the polisher that airstream guys use works good too just can remember the name
