Is this a good buy?

Post by Chaseh » Mon May 06, 2013 12:37 pm

13x7 alum hull. Built 350. New prop. Wants 7500 for it. Not much selection around here. Says it does 40+ deep water with a 1000lb load. A little bigger than I really wanted, but I kinda like it. No reduction, and says it will run dry "a little". Could this setup run dry with reduction? Too much $? Overall thoughts for a beginner airboater please!ImageImageImage

Ill give ya my opinion. And remember its just my opinion so I'm not tryin to argue with
Anybody. I wouldn't pay $3000 for it. I don't believe 40 mhp outta that boat at all
Looks really heavy. Weight to h.p. is what I was taught. But its your $$ I could be wrong
But thats just my opinion.

Too much , and then your question about adding reduction unit , you would be upside down in cost. Keep looking

Well shit, where's all the 3k$ boats at??? I'm going to cocoa, fl some time in July and could bring one back, but dammit I want one now! An I can't find any in Florida for that price via Craigslist. And I guess everything in the classifieds here is way overpriced too.....

this could be just his asking price. make him an offer. the boys have given you good advice. 3500.00 in excellent shape is about right---cost more to build. but facts are facts. this is a good engine--will not run dry. might coast across some dry spots, which might get you by. wont hurt to make an offer. jmo

Well u asked for opinions and were givin it to u. If your comin here in july just wait
There's boats all over florida that look better too. Dont be gettin upset when your askin for
Opinions. I'd hate to see u buy it and end up at the bottom of a deep
A$$ lake because its under powered and too heavy. Then u won't have a boat.
7500 can buy a nice boat myfriend...

Craigslist has a lot of boats and gives you a good idea on pricing. The classified on this board also has several.
I look everyday for a boat and maybe will never own one but I will at least know what they are selling for. lol
Coupe of caddy boats on this board now.

This boat is in the classified now.

Oh I'm not butt hurt! I spend most of my online time on mudmotortalk, so I'm not thin skinned, and I want y'all to know I appreciate all the help.

Coondog, I run rocks, gravel, and lots of stumps with a little mud so an aluminum hull is a must. Feel free to throw any of those you see my way. I did notice a boat in pieces in the classifieds for 6k in south Texas. Any thoughts on that one guys?

Chaseh. I know a guy in Montgomery, tx that has a panther hull with a brand new built sbc and gear reduction and new paint he is looking to sell, plus it has a brand new whirlwind prop to boot, this is a much better deal and what you are looking at, I believe he is asking right around 10k, but he may be negotiable, if you are interested drop me a pm and I will send you his number.

If u have 10 grand to spend ID go ahead and look for something with a reduction and be done with it. Like said above prop/reduction is worth 5. U will be much happier I think and it gives u much more to work with.

If I'm going to pay 10k for a DD it better say Waterthunder on it . That boat also , the sum of the parts does not equal the asking price .
