I have seen several airboats with retractable bimini tops on them where they lay up against the cage when not in use, I am looking to install a good one on my airboat, anybody have any suggestions on a good one that will fit my 96 inch wide beam boat

thanks,

Kerry :texas:

if your going to custom make one, make it so it goes forward and backward for a whole lotta reasons. Youll thank me later

Why backwards?

A custom built top can fold down easily forward inside your grass rake for storage and thick riding or back towards the cage when not needed.

Ever try to squeeze under that bridge Deuce? Couple times i've had to drop my cover to the ft so I could fit under it

Another unless your flag mounts behind all the bimini top, your gonna need to make adjustments one way or another.

If your stuck sitting in one area because you cant fire up and the sun drops down in ft of you, you can drop your top down and keep the sun off you. I also have used mine as a hunting blind in front of me.

Unless your going to wrap it up nicely in the cover every time u use it which I never do.. when pulling the rig down the road, just drop it forward and it wont flap in the breeze and wear out the material! You would be amazed at what the cage wire will do if its not all tied down and flapping against it.

I also suggest that you use D Clips to O rings(metal) sewn to straps on the seat structure and cage to secure the top. Most of the hardware on Bimini tops is junk and it will break.

Minor stuff but functional nonetheless

I run salt water bays, marsh, big lakes, rivers, and dry stuff with brush.
Stainless bows and hardware are heavy but very strong. i'm guessing mine
weighs over 60 lbs. but I have never had any of it break or tear off.

Well worth the expense if you plan on full day trips in the hot sun.

On some really nasty cold rainy days I have even parked my rig on dry ground
and hog hunted in comfort.

Lol, I couldn't get under most bridges with mine anyways! I don't know why, but I've always wanted one that laid forward for some reason, but I could see the merit it having it go both ways. They are proud of those SOB's! I've had 2 quotes and they are expen$ive!!!

Love the bent rudder stick comment!

Like you I was shopping for a bimini top until I started getting quotes. WOW! So I went with the option of mounting a nice pole holder and bought a 9' patio umbrella. Works really well when the sun or rain is a factor.

Here's a pic of mine, it will go down under grass rake or you can lay it up on the cage.

I tried a Bimini too, it really intensified the prop noise, enough that I wouldn't even put it up while underway. Went back to an umbrella.
